Purchased WIN2K last week and when I was trying to load it the setup program states that there is no hard drives available to load the OS onto. This is my first system with a Ultra ATA/100 HD and it's operation reminds me of a SCSI drive I had years ago. I'm certain I need to load a driver by hitting F6 when the first blue screen appears but I have had no luck on locating these drivers. The Microsoft page was not much help. They have so much there that I can't see the forest because of all of the trees.
If any one has a link to the drivers it would save me some time.
WIN98SE loads fine and I am planning on multibooting with the drive split into two partitions.
TIA
Yes, just like SCSI adapter cards, you would have to load the drivers for your ATA-100 controller if the Win2K CDROM doesn't have the specific or generic driver for that device.
You will notice that not all SCSI cards and ATA controllers require driver to be loaded on Win2K installation for the drive to be detected. In my case, I used to have to load the drivers for my Adaptec 29160N SCSI card or the ATA66 on-board controller for my ABIT BE6-2 mainboard on NT installations, but as for Win2K, it just loads the driver automatically for me.
It depends when your controller was made. If it was made after the release of Win2K, you most likely need to load the drivers yourself because the specific driver of generic driver won't exist on the Win2K installation CD.
As for locating the driver for your ATA-100 controller, you should have a driver CDROM for the ATA-100 controller either on the ATA-Controller Card CDROM or on the mainboard CDROM if you have an on-board ATA-100 controller.

Just an update! I loaded the drivers onto a floppy and had one problem. I needed to load the txtsetup.oem file onto the floppy with the drivers. without it the WIN2K cannot see the drivers and will abort. Good luck!

You have to rename the ultra66.sys driver to .ole and name the fasttrak100 driver as ultra66.sys. Do this under DOS with a win98 boot disk. Install and after the "Performing Final Tasks" del ultra66.sys and rename the fasttrak100 driver again as ultra66.sys. After ytou get into Win2K reinstall the driver. DO NOT install onto NTFS. Convert to NTFS after this is all done.
This was thanks to MntSnow who clued me into this process that is posted ont he Promise site.
