wanna flash the bios, just want the system files on a disk...no autoexec.bat or config.sys files.....the /s command is no longer supported..and it doesnt seem to work in file manager as well in explorer..any ideas?
ps. i know you can go to add remove programs and make a disk. but thats a startup disk i believe

Startup disk and a boot disk is the same thing, just make sure to boot into the pure-DOS enviroment to flash your BIOS. The outcome of making a mistake on a BIOS update can be inevitable. Whatever you do, don't turn off the system or reboot it when the BIOS update is in progress. If you aren't sure exactly how to update the BIOS, leave it to someone who does. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Here is a link to site that you can download a boot disk:

that is right that is a stsrt up disk but that is the only way to do it in win me just get rid of the files that are not needed to do the flash with that is what i did it worked fine

THe ME startup disk will work for flashing small BIOSes. However, if it's one of the newer big ones, then you won't have enough space on the floppy to put the rom file and flashing utility.

NDC has the right idea - download a DOS or 9X boot disk from that site and use it. It's simpler than drn's suggestion, especially if you're not dead sure which files you can safely do without.

Guess the folks in Redmond weren't counting on the average ME user wanting to upgrade their BIOS!

Win 98 boot disk will do the job. Don't worry that you are using a Win98 boot disk on a Win ME. You aren't going to boot the system that far to make the difference. You just want to get a clean DOS boot just to update the BIOS, not boot Win ME from the Win98 boot disk. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

i actually used a millennium start up disk, but got rid of the autoexec.bat and config.sys files..had to delete fdisk in order to leave enough room to save my old bios on the disk b4 updating it. what a piece of cake. it went off without a hitch. whoever said this was hard?.................thanks
