I like Windows ME except for the change it takes to turn off my computer. In windows 98SE my computer shutdown quickly. Now it takes like 5.5 minutes to turn off. I have a MS K7PRO mainboard. Everything else is kind of nice in Windows ME.
Is anyone else have the problem of an extra long turn off time in Windows ME?

YES! But I am more up the creek than you are. When I shutdown on my system now, I almost always, 90% literally, get a reboot. Don't know what the problems are, I have tried reinstalling WinMe over itself again and again, I have not yet tried to do a clean install because I really don't think I have the time yet. Anyways, is anyone having my problem??
System Specs:
AMD Athlon 900mhz running on an Asus K7V Motherboard with up-to-date drivers.
I have a lot of other things, but don't think they would hurt my system any...

I was getting a reboot on a shutdown when I had power up enabled w/n the bios. Turned it off and it powers down in 5-10 seconds.

Here are my specs:
All of this is powered with a 300w power supply that is recommended by AMD in a large case. I have the latest drivers for all the components.
AMD Athlon 650 MHz processor on MSI MS K7Pro
mainboard.
Voodoo3 3500TV AGP graphics card.
Soundblaster 128PCI soundcard.
Zoom 33.6 ISA modem.
128meg PC-100 RAM.
Logitech PS/2 mouse
PS/2 Keyboard
Canon 620U scanner
Lexmark Z11 color inkjet printer.
Sony 32x CDROM
15.3 Gig maxtor HDD UDMA-66 enabled
2.1 Gig Seagate HDD UDMA-33 enabled

I upgraded from Windows 98SE to Windows ME
and it takes for ever to turn off my computer. If anyone knows a fix, please reveal your secret. No stability problems to be noted at all. Just takes 5.5 minutes to turn off.
BUGS ME! Windows 98SE shutdown in about 2 seconds.

Well, I have in my bios the setting set to turn off in Power Management and it still takes for ever with the latest bios 1.7.

The solution to the problem was a startup program. This program Intercast, an intergral part of WebTV for Windows 98SE. Now my computer shuts down normal! YES!!!

I am trying the Power Up disable thing now, does anyone constantly get kernel32 and shell32.dll errors while trying to access drives? I am always getting those now, but I have never gotten one before the upgrade to WinMe.
What happens if I install Win98SE on top of WinMe? Will it create complications?? Thanks

My Windows Me sometimes doesn't shutdown all the way. What gives?

I've had a few BSOD's and it seems to spin down the hard drives before turning off the machine.

You should check to see if your IDE drivers are installed correctly and perhaps try a reinstall of Windows ME. One thing that everyone should check if they are having problems, are the startup programs. Turn off all of the startup programs and if that works , then just start eliminating the bad from the good. You can disable startup things until your problems goes away.
