Got corel installed to view jpg but lost the thumbnail view of explore.
After that i unstalled corel but there is no thumbnail view with explore.
I tried file type in the folder options menu but that didn't work.
How do i get it back.

I have had this forever it seems....it works and I do not remember where it came from but yes it does...always backup the registry first

I just had this same problem. Third party viewers and editors like to hijack the preview functions and associations.
I've also just learned that the problem is common enough that these solutions should be a chapter in any Windows book!
Unless people know about the PREVIEW and THUMBNAILS, they might not know they were hijacked. I knew about PREVIEWS, but only learned about THUMBNAILS trying to get my preview back!

I found three excellent solutions:

1) Go to www.download.com (http://www.download.com) or www.tucows.com (http://www.tucows.com) and type IRFANVIEW in the search box. It's an excellent viewer that supports many types of formats. It has a thumbnail function and can create slide shows among other things.

2) Go into WINFILE (Run: WINFILE) and set the associations. These third party guys do something to disconnect the FOLDER OPTIONS method! If you have no open, you have to do this.

3) To get your preview back, you have to edit the registry. It'll only take 30 seconds.

Below is the edit. Use COPY and PASTE. Copy the enclosed edit from REGEDIT4 to the last quote, without changing any of the spacing.

Next, PASTE it to NOTEPAD (it's in your ACCESSORIES).
Save the file with a .reg extention (Patch.reg will do).
Open this saved file.
The edit should be made to the registry at this point by Windows default.

But you can make sure by:
From the Toolbar, select FILE
From the drop down menu, select MERGE
You will be asked to confirm the MERGE. YES
The edit will be complete.
Close everything.

You will have your thumbnail and preview back. This is the edit I used, copy and pasted!

Now change the file to a .txt file so that you don't accidentally make changes to your registry. By default Windows will make the eidt to any file with a .reg extension as soon as the file is double clicked.

I'm no genuis. I just had this same problem and had to search many boards to find these solutions!

Thanks for the tip CodyBear..I had the same problem. After installing Quicktime I lost the preview from windows explorer.
What was odd was that after I re-installed my picture viewer(I use vueprint), the .bmp viewer returned, but not .jpg/.gif, etc..

You're fix worked perfectly though..thankfully I don't have to reinstall!

Why stay away from Corel???? I use Corel Draw which is a very handy graphic application.
