Hi to all,

I cannot go to microsoft web site or my CIBC PC banking web site after I installed IE5.5 (english version).

So, anyone know how to get rid of IE 5.5 from my computer?

Any help is appreciated in advance.

Just go in to add/remove program and you will see IE 5.5 on the list of programs installed on your system. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

BTY, I don't think I have back up my IE 5.0, do you have any idea where I can get it somehow....

Strange that it isn't showing in your Add/Remove program. You did upgrade from 5 to 5.5, right?

Yes, Look here to download IE 5

Hi NDC,

My situation is upgrade from IE 5 to 5.5 under Win98 Se and then Upgrade to Win ME and then uninstall WinMe and back to Win 98 SE. May be that 'w why.

But thanks for your link !

The only way I've ever been able to successfully uninstall any version of IE is with a program called IEradicator. It is freeware available on http://www.98lite.net follow the directions carefully and don't run it from a floppy as it does not finish properly if you do.

The reason you can't find I.E. 5 in your Add/Remove Programs is because it is loaded with Win98 se. You won't have the repair tool either. You have to go to the Microsoft Update site to get the Internet version. this will give you a listing in Add/Remove Programs.
Here is another problem. If you have Win 98 and I.E.5.01 or higher and then you put Win98 se ontop of this you will replace your current version of I.E. 5.01 with an older version offered on the Win98 se disk. Not all files will be affected but enough of them to make a real mess out of things.

Another way of running the Repair Tool if I.E. is not listed in Add/Remove Programs is to on this page:

It appears here that he's trying to get rid of IE 5.5 which isn't loaded with Win98Se. He did the upgrade from IE 5 to IE 5.5 and is trying to get rid of IE 5.5 which should show on the add/remove program list, but apparently isn't. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif IE 5.5 showed in add/remove programs on all the systems that I've installed it to from IE 5 and..... I'm back to IE 5. IE 5.5 was a real disappointment! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

I problems that I was encountering weren't that serious. IE 5.5 was just slower than IE 5. The real problem began after uninstalling IE 5.5. It wiped out my Easy CD CDreator program leaving me unable to reinstall EASY CD Creator. Kept giving me a message that IE caused an error and than it couldn't proceed with the installation of Easy CD Creator.

The way I fixed I.E. was to get back to a version before I.E. 5. I went back to a base of 3.1 and went to the 5.5. this is a very round about way but it worked.

It sounds like your Scripting is set to "Disable". Go to the Control Panel and into your Internet Options. On the Security tab hit the Custom Level button or what ever level is on the button. Scroll down to the section on Scripting. Enable them all. this will allow you to get on the Windows and CIBC web site.

Cheers!
