Is this the same as Win95B?
The first time I tried to get my project to run I was using a copy of Win95B, but didn't get all of it copied apparently. (I'm trying to save my old files so tried to copy Win95B from the active drive to mine.)
I have: Abit bx6-2, P2 350, a new floppy drive and a Kenwood 52x to start with.
Last month altho the BIOS recognized a cd-rom in auto mode, it never could install it. No inf file. I have my original drive back now, which has Win95 and service pack 1 installed. Will this do it or should I go directly to Win98 and try to recover my old files later?

Hmm, this makes two posts I just didn't quite understand today. My brain must have gone on vacation without me http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Win95B has USB support (sort of http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif) and the FAT32 file system. Uh oh, was it SP1 or SP2 that was the equivilent of Win95B? Sheesh, looks like my brain DID leave http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Further information pertaining to the systems should be located on the MS website.

If you're upgrading to Win98, then just do it. Skip Win95B since all "B" is is a patch for Win95. But then again, all Win98 is is a patch for Win95B. Which in turn leads to Win2000 which is a patch for Win98.

Come to think of it, wasn't Win95 a patch for Windows 3.1? I digress.

I don't see what it is you want to do. The first query asks about a comparison between Win95A SP1 and Win95B, which I don't think are the same OS exactly but close enough that either will do what the other does.

Then you mention a project, this is where I got lost. What project? Is it relevant to the Win95B query? Then you mention a CDROM in auto mode. I'm still lost http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif What do you want the CDROM to do? Any further information may help save me from total confusion http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I think it's a full moon or right after one anyway.

It sounds like your in deep trouble here. Looks like you tried installing 95B over A version, it didn't work so you tried reinstalling A again. And now you can't get to your files. Is this correct?

ABILL...

I think your wrong on one point:

Win2000 is a patch for NT4, not for WIN98!

All it does is make USB, ACPI and FAT32 work in NT.

It may also add a few obscure networking things that NT4 didn't already have.

I'm sorry, I didn't want to make a real lengthy post here. My project is building my own computer. The auto mode was in the bios of the BX6. That detected the cd-rom, but Win95B was not able to find & install it.
My win95 was the original with sp1, never saw sp2 available. I have access to win95b, but it didn't copy correctly to my drive, which was in another machine. In talking with the Kenwood rep about the problem with the cd installation, the usb support came up again.I'd heard the usb support in win95b was comparable to that in win98, so hoped to get by w/o buying 98 yet.
I went ahead and got win98 and a new drive. The real problem with the kenwood cd I have seems to be heat. The bios & win98 find it when it's first turned on, but after the drive warms up, 98 loses the cd, and when I reboot, the bios can't find it either.
Until I get a fan, 5-10 minutes in the freezer does the trick to get all the set-up done from the cds.

Thanks for the head-scratching on my behalf!

Now that was a weird problem and a weirder solution http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I never would have guessed an overheating CDROM drive. I hope a fan is all it takes, it woud be awful to have to leave your computer in the freezer http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
