First off I already tried Microsoft's crude definition of "Help," and got nothing. Here's the problem. After I do a clean install of Windows 98, and click into My Computer and start milling around through folders, I receive an error: 'Explorer has caused an Invalid Page Fault in Module MSHTML.DLL at 0167:7ada612.' I have already tried copying the Win98 folder to the hard drive and installing from there...same outcome.

Help would be appreciated

First be certain that you have installed all the latest drivers for motherboard chipset and devices. Next I would take a second look at hardware and hardware settings, CPU (-is it overheating/overclocked -sufficient voltage?), also memory, drives, cables, connections -even the power supply voltages; it looks like you may have some system instability.

First off, what MS help have you used?

Second, is it Win98 or Win98 Second Edition? This is important, as there are some differences in the way they work.

How clean is your install? Did you zero the HD and completely repartition and reformat, or did you just delete Windows?

You said you copied the Win98 folder, from the CD, right? You may have a bad CD.

If the error message is consistent, regardless of what you do, I would say it's one of two things. Either you have a bad CD, or you have some HW problems. If you can, try a different CD.

BTW, I think that file is related to web stuff. Try turning off the 'View as web page' function.

I have tried other CD's, it is Second Edition. It may be a hardware thing because it is all new equip...new motherboard, soundcard, Video, modem. Where is the View as Web Page? I went into FDISK and deleted the partitions and reformated. I used Technet at microsoft.com...How do I know if my hardware is set up correctly?

View as web page is under View on the menu bar.

As far as HW goes, check the compatibility listings and then take CMonster's advice and get the most updated drivers.

Try changing your memory config. Move chips to different slots and swap them out if possible.

Have you installed any other SW, HW, drivers, patches, after installing Windows? If so, did this problem start before or after anything else was installed?

I have been testing right after install to try to detect the source of the problem. It still comes up...before drivers. I do have the most updated drivers for my stuff. I will switch the memory, and I am going to take out all cards but video and test like that; add one at a time & test.

Update:

Last night I took out all off my expansion cards and installed Windows...no problems...Then I loaded a few programs and my sound card...all one at a time and tested to see if the error came back. I am going good so far. I have to put my modem in yet, but everything seems to be going well..knock on wood.

I recon you have fixed the problem by now. I would have thought it was video related myself. If you have win98se run the registry checker on startup, every startup with the modem turned on then I can help you out.
