I am having some problems trying to get everything working ok when I try to put a Win2K Server on a WinNT4 domain. I will post the errors that I am having in the event log tomorrow, but does anyone know a good link for suggestions about this.

You are not trying to make it a domain controller are you?

No. It will just be a member server. I am using LMhosts entries. No Wins. I will install IIS on it though.
Right now I don't want to upgrade my WinNT4 PDC to 2000. But would that be a easier way to go.
Is Winnt4 better on a Win2000 domain?
I have about 10 servers. Right now 8 are WinNT4 including the PDC and 2 BDC's. The other 2 are Win2K Server (both are basically file servers).
Should I upgrade my PDC to Win2K Server and if so can I leave my BDC's on WinNT4 for now?
Make sense?

In a win2000 domain all controllers are equal (No more PDC and BDC) While this has its advantages, it keeps you from having NT4 machines from being domain controllers in a win2000 domain. So don't upgrade your PDC to win2000 unless you are ready to upgrade all the BDCs to 2000 DCs also.
Post those error messages, and I'll see what I can dig up in technet for you.
And when do you get the errors? Is it when you try to join the domain?
Don't worry to much about WINS now. Windows 2000 domains like DNS. (They are *Yeah!* trying to get away from netbios)
And until then check out the latest edition of technet http://www.microsoft.com/technet/
It features running IIS5 on Win2000 machines.

Thanks, I'll post those errors soon and I've heard about getting away from WINS so I am going to try to set up DNS on my NT4 PDC.
Thanks a million.

So these are the errors I get.
On my Win2K server (file server)...
Event: 8021, Source: Browser &
Event: 8032, Source: Browser. "failed to find a master browse list from VICPD00.. stopping browser services"
On my NT4 PDC server (PDC)...
Event: 5723, Source: Netlogon "no trust account in security database"
Any ideas, I re-entered the account info in the Server Manager window on my PDC but it still gives me the errors.

Here is the technet article for your problem http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q135/4/04.asp?LN=EN-US&SD=tech&FR=0
Next up on the platter is error 5723 http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q150/5/18.asp?LN=EN-US&SD=tech&FR=0
and http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q150/5/18.asp?LN=EN-US&SD=tech&FR=0
Now the first link may apply, but my guess is that the win2000 machine is not part of the domain. I have ran across this problem once when I used serve manager to add computer accounts into the domain. What I did to fix this was to remove all references to the win2k machine from server manager. Then I waited 15 minutes for the domain controllers to replicate the info.
Next, I took the Win2k machine out of the domain on the win2k machine itself, or in other words, I told the win2k machine that it was in a workgroup.
Now both the win2k amchine and the domain controllers should have forgotten about each other.
Next, ON THE WIN2K machine I have it join the domain and supplied the administrator account credentials for the domain.
I now avoid using server manager to add computers to a domain at almost all costs.

Skippy, it looks like you are very right about your posting. I got very frusterated about the Win2K server today so what I did was first got rid of it from the domain. Then I formatted the hard drive of it and reset up the computer and joined the domain via the setup. It now likes being part of the domain except it still doesn't find a master browser for some reason. But at least it is finding a time server so it can sync its account.
