I am a Tech that does alot of custom configurations for 98SE. I have noticed from time to time that when installing video or audio devices, sometimes in Control Panel/Multimedia/devices, that daul or multiple codecs get installed that are the same. Ie. activemovie MCI driver, and other codecs. These are from clean, first time installs and was wondering, since I Delete the additional codecs that are added, if this is common when also switching out Old cards for new ones.
I have also noticed on all Installs recently in MSConfig/Startup on a Clean istall from the CD of 98, and our OPK loads there is LoadPowerProfile Rundll32.exe powerprof.dll,LoadCurrentPwrScheme in there twice.
Has anyone else encountered this and noticed any oddities? Do multiple Registry entries interfere with eachother? and do multiple codecs iterfere with system performance or am I wasting my time correcting what may be a nonissue?

I've heard that multiple entries can cause problems, so I always remove them when I see them too. I assume that the OPK you're referring to is OEM Preinstallation Kit, and that you're doing preinstalls. You also mentioned that you do a lot of custom configurations. Is it possible that when the preinstall disk was set up that you (or whoever created the disk) allowed it to load drivers for hardware that is different from what you're installing? Since video and audio hardware often have multiple drivers loading for one piece of hardware, it might load duplicate drivers for some of the ones already there.

Actually the video and audio codecs are even after clean installs from the 98 CD's ....We get new ones for each system on custom installs from Microsoft.
The double LoadPowerProfile in the start iv'e noticed on computers even my company hasn't put together ....... I had a friend recently purchase to HP Computers and I looked in MSConfig ...... sure enough two LoadPowerProfiles ..... Lokked at another friends Compact ans same there.
