OK, so I'm fairly new to this forum and also a Recruitment consultant (UK) and previously a systems manager, so forgive me for my interest, but would like some views.

What's the feeling about;
1. Jobs market
2. Salaries
3. future skills shortages

As many members are USA, would be interested to understand what's happening their (we're usually a few years behind in the UK !!!)

The Jobs market is very ripe, as more companies scramble to become web enabled. There probably was a software shortage 7-8 yrs ago. Now there is a software drought. There are less qualified people trying to fill an ever expanding need for IT/IS.

Salaries are directly related to the above, so it is a good thing to be a qualified software developer with experience. I'm basically going to be making more and more money in the next 5-10 years.

Future skills shortages? Future, what about right now? My client is scrambling to find people as qualified as myself. Being totally arrogant, I have met many more software developers that are fairly clueless, than one's that are truly competent. Maybe the whole world is like this and there are a lot of people in IS/IT just for the money, not for passion or certainly not for talent.
