Just how bad for your computer is it to be running Windows 98 with only 28 mb of RAM, as opposed to the minimum 32 mb of RAM? This program said my RAM has a 200% load on it, even when running one program. So is my computer in any real danger here?

no real danger but upgrading to a bit more would be nice...I have a 64 stick if you can use dimms

It couldn't be good for your hard drive thrashing around reading and writing all the time. Could it?

I've run W98 on a P75 with 8 meg ram before, so I wouldn't worry about it if you can stand the slower speed. Other members have used even less of a system and have gotten away with it.

hhh8785, if you want to feel better just get some more RAM, then you wont have to worry anymore.

Well I sure feel kinda stupid after finding out that you only need 16 mb of RAM to run Win98. But Is my computer in any real danger by having a 200% load on my memory?

Actually the minimum ram for W98 (non-SE) is only 16 meg. I think the minimum for W98 Special Edition is 24 meg.

ELi you are correct. I thought on the win98 cd it said 24MB's though. http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q182/7/51.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0

I had a mem upgrade (32->64Mb) a couple of days ago. It's like I am working with a new computer now.I had no idea it makes such a big difference!Since my old Quantum 2Big foot is only 3.2Mb/s I have really slow virtual memory.Next step is 128Mb and a new harddrive.
