when i say thins i'm refering to the savage 4 32 mb agp cards from creative labs. i mean i have overclocked the thing to 150mhs mem/180mhz core and the stupid thing is still just warm. not hot like my tnt was at stock. not even close yet it has a heatsink that is like 1/3 the sixe. what is up w/ this. did they just add it to make it look cool or what. cuz in my opinion i do'nt think it really needed one ata ll. not like it has much of one on it anyways. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I thought the same thing for the motherboard chipset, and I guess it's one of those things you don't think you need until you don't have it (kidneys for instance!).

my via chipset mobos never had a heatsink on the chipset, but now the intel mobo has one, and it is warm to the touch, never even thought about touching the via chip...
i am guessing they put the heatsink on there for cases with poor airflow.

s-a,
If the thing doesn't even get warm, then obviously marketing made the decision to put the H/S on the chip!
Looks sexy and powerful. Vroom, vroom!
The very high performance power-hog graphics cards have mongo heatsinks on them and even cooling fans. Who wants to look like a wimp compared to these in this very competitive marketplace with just a bare IC package!! And the heatsink costs pennies and probably increases sales by 10%, so they more than pay for themselves!

sounds the opposite of my voodoo 3000, that sucker could fry an egg at normal running speed.
Then i removed the h/s, peeled off the crappy sticky thing they had, replaced that with some thermal paste, put the h/s back on, and added a 4cm fan about 1 cm above the h/s, the **** thing is still hot to the touch.
