I just installed Linux-Mandrake, but can´t have it recognize my soundcard. When using HardDrake, when I highlight any device on the left column, the "Run configuration tool" button desappears. How can I configurate my devices if that button is not there??

Second question, I have a win modem (Cirrus Logic- Ambient driver). Is there a way to use it with my new Linux.

thanks a lot for answering

Forget the winmodem. It will never work with Linux. That's why it's called a WINmodem: it requires windoze to work.

As for the soundcard; set it up from a terminal window or text console, by running "sndconfig".

Whoa, hol on there pardner... before you go throwing out your WINmodem out the door, you may want to check and see if it is supported in Mandrake 7.1... Rumor has it that a couple o the popular winmodems are supported.

As for your sound card, what type is it? Did you try typing sndconfig in a terminal window?

Try http://linmodems.org , they have Linux Winmodem support. Here are a few more, possibly useful links in determining if your modem is supported under Linux.
