I no longer see the Windows 98 splash screen when I start my PC. I am not able to find the Logo sys file or to extract it from the installation CD. I believe that the screen I do see is the audio drivers loading in DOS. I would appreciate help in restoring the start screen Thanks

i'd just want to make a suggestion, i say keep it off, it reduces start up time. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

'Find' Tweak UI on your W98 CDR. Install and then run it. (It ends up in Control Panel.) Look on the "Boot" tab to see if "Display splash screen while booting" has been un-checked.

How can it be unchecked if it has not been installed yet? If the program has not been installed then how can you change a setting.

Curious

The only Logo.sys file I have on my system is in the Norton folder and is a logo for Norton's rescue disk, however I see the Windows start screen every time I start-up.
This KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q190/6/45.ASP

States this:
Windows 98 no longer requires a Logo.sys file to display the default logo screen when you start your Windows 98-based computer. If a valid Logo.sys file exists in the root of drive C, it is used.

Beats the heck out of me where my logo comes from. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

The reason you can't get rid of it is because there is a backup file hidden in windows. I forget the file name but it would have the extention .BKD or something. I did it on my win95 box but have not tried it on this one. If you create your own logo system file and place it in the root dir. Then that is what you will see if you have goten rid or the orignal not the back up something like that anyways.

Thanks everyone for your input. I really appreaciate it. I am going to try to find tweak U. I assume if I check to display the splash screen, I can uncheck it also if boot up time is considerably longer with screen displayed. Thanks again.
