Just installed the new Mandrake 7.1. Very nice ! LOTS of new toys & apps to play with. Did a "middle of the road" install; came in at just under 2 Gb ! The new installer is a snap. Even a windoze user could drive it ! Just a pity the whole thing has been "dumbed down" a bit (for the M$ users, I guess).
Interesting though, Mandrake's product info states it includes XFree86 4.0, however, it installed 3.3.6 !? Nowhere on the install media can I find the RPM's for 4.0.

I was disappointed to see that some of my right-click options were missing from KDE.

I'm running Mandrake 7.1 and When I was installing it the Installer asked if I wanted to try Xfree86 4.0 and of course my answer was yes and it installed it and is using it now. Also the only major problem I've seen is that it asks you to put in a defualt gateway in the network setup and when I did my ppp daemon kept dying when trying to connect. I tried to edit the gateway files to no avail and finally just reinstalled the whole thing w/o a gateway and now everything works except this annoying little kernel oops when I have to halt the system when a storm comes through or something (My power is funny and actually burnt a surge protector up a while back). But overall it seems to be a very nice Linux OS for us Linux Beginners to play with and learn.

I only have the Base O.S. (2 CD's). It still installed a lot of stuff though, including python.
I should have known better, and used the "expert mode" for installation rather than "custom". Anyway, all my hardware was correctly detected and configured.

Say Linux_Guru,
you wouldn't happen to have the powerpack for mandrake 7.1???
I installed mandrake 7.1 too a few days ago, but don't have the powerpack.
And I can't seem to get proggies installed in Linux.
Like Python, it won't install.
