I'm sorry that happened. I have never had virus troubles, but it must be a pain. Have you right clicked on them, gone to properties, and seen if read only was checked? That may be preventing you from renaming. It also prevents accidintal deletion, which may be stopping you. Good luck, and be careful when downloading things like that. Do you have anti-virus?

Another thought...
These programs may be running in the background which is stopping you from editing or deleting them. Push ctrl+alt+del, close any odd or foreign progs that you have not seen before or look like these, then try editing or deleting them.

Physically disconnect your modem or cable before you re-boot! You don't want to take any chances if it one of the nasties that send out to everyone in your address book.

WinTop will tell you whats running, ctl-alt-del doesnt tell near the whole story. And to make sure no proggie is sending info out or your computer, get Zone Alarm.

And a free virus check here:

Another thought... Are you sure it's a virus. There is a joke file that ACTS like it's deleting your hard drive, but is a joke. It's scary if you don't know it's a joke.
I'm not saying this is the case, but if you run a virus scan and it turns up, then you'll know it indeed is a virus. If you received it in your email, it's also *possible* that the person who sent it to you was also an unwitting victim.
You can also get a free download of an excellent AV program from www.avp.com (http://www.avp.com)
What's the name of one or two of the new folders named in code?
To make sure it's a joke... check if your harddrive is actually making odd noises, like when you're defragmenting your harddrive. If it says it's deleting stuff in your harddrive, or claiming it's formatting it, and you hear no noise whatsoever, then it's a joke, listen to your computer, it really helps. then like the others, disconnect everything that might allow it to spread, this is your phone line connected to your modem. use a virus scanner, you can get a McAfee for just 10 bucks, and next time, don't open stuff from strangers.

It was actually an AOL instant message, not mail. Some one IMed me and it automaticlly took me to a site that said "you are mine" were I couldnt escape(like a punter).I ctrl+alt+deleted AOL before i could download it,but i guess it already did.I asked a friend and he said the person must have really known computers to do that, but he said it was possible that it could just wisk me away to that site.Anyway,I think it was a joke,Cause I ran scandisk and all the **** is gone!but it did convert files like videorom.bin to hidden files. But the name of the folders were like ?@~|.@@? and others in code. And the files were 1,099,283,298 bytes large or thats what it said anyway. And they said they were created in like 1/04/32 or 4/13/78 and stuff like that.Bizzar
