Hi everyone,

Just a "not so important" question here. When I boot Windows and have my modem turned off (it's an external) it is not found by Windows and thus if I wanna use it I have to turn it on and perform a "Scan for new devices" at the Device Manager. Not very important but quite annoying. Does anyone knows a way to force Windows to keep the modem device at the Device Manager even if it's turned on?

Any suggestions welcome http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I have the same problem with my win2K box. Not just the modem, but the scanner (parallel) as well. If I want to use either one, I have to turn it on before I boot the computer. Still haven't found a way around this annoyance yet.

Hehe! A Linux guru that runs Win 2K!! I like that! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif If you boot Windows having scanner and modem turned off instead of booting again you can right-click on the device manager and choose Scan for new devices; but still time consuming and annoying. Isn't there any other way?

I run several Operating Systems; Win2K is just one of them. My main system is Linux. Always keen to "evaluate" new technology. Win2K has got some nice features, but also got a few annoyances, like this modem/scanner issue. Still looking for a way around this.
