I have an IBM thinkpad i series Model 1417
type 2611.My laptop has got dual O/S Linux and Win 98.I am not able to access my BIOS in order to enable the USB port.It looks like the BIOS has been moved from its area while loading LINUX.Is there anyway I can restore the BIOS.Please Help
Bios is contained on a chip on the motherboard and can't be moved or removed and still allow themachine to operate. As far as I know you should just be able to press and hold the F1 key and turn on the machine to access the bios.
There is a software interface to the bios that can run under a variety of operating systems, however I'd doubt that you would find it for an operating system that is not shipped with the machine. You should be able to download this application at.... http://www.pc.ibm.com/support?lang=en_US&page=brand&brand=IBM+ThinkPad&lang=en_US

Their are many different keys on different computers to press to access the bios. A trick I found is too hold a key down when you start the computer. On my computer it gave a key pressed error message and said press ** to enter the BIOS. You might want to try that.

CTRL-Fn-F9 that should work. F9 should be the key to access Power management, if not revert.
Also try not pressing Fn.

Actually you need to hold your F1 key and then power off and back on the laptop all while keeping the F1 key held down.
