password encryption

While at work here tonight, I was checking my E-mail and I have to log onto the mail server at my ISP.I was wondering,since my password is encrypted as I send it, can the network people here see it because it will be going out through a firewall?
I know that they would have to look at the server logs and other stuff to find it and then wouldn't it also have to be cracked to see it?
Just wondering.. not paranoid, just curious. Thanks. Mp

well, dat sux! guess I'll be changing me password when I get off in the morning. I knew that ftp packets were sent as plain text, but I didn't know that about PPP. I hope nobody has a sniffer going..Yipes http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

most ISPs do plain text passwords. encryption often seems to cause more problems than it is worth for email...figure and ISP has 100,000 customers and if they have decent encryption (say 128 bit), there can be a lot of problems if anything goes wrong. plus you never know what level of encryption a customer has on their browser...

i've got a great encryption tool for ya! i haven't yet got it to work with sending e-mail, but it works great for everything else!

i haven't yet made it, but i can have it where the "encrypt" button also is a form submit button. so, it could send you completely encrypted e-mail.

unfortunately, as of now, this would mean that you would have to copy the encrypted code into a decrypter just to read the message. so, i don't think i'll make it yet.
