[This message has been edited by voogru (edited 06-03-2000).] a Bill 06-03-2000, 10:15 AM I am a big fan of Unix operating systems, but for games, I use Win95B. Next up would be the Win98 OS. Skip the 2K stuff for now. I have no idea about WinMe so I would skip that altogether and just use Win98. Go with a proven performer for games. For real operating systems, skip MS and go Unix http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif cyclone2 06-03-2000, 10:25 AM If you need a O/S right now get Win98se if you are using something now and can wait a couple months look at Win ME as it should be an improvement over 98, if you are basically just/mostly gaming forget 2000 its way more than you need and many games wont run on it. jad1097 06-03-2000, 03:18 PM A couple months? I think it is more like a couple of weeks. "the company expects to release this consumer operating system to manufacturing on June 13, 2000." I currently have RC1 installed and I think it will be worth the wait. I am sure it will not cost $300. I would think around $90 or $100 would be the cost of a upgrade. rtyp3 06-04-2000, 08:40 AM Wow, June 13! Does anyone know if it would be worth getting early, does it still have thousands of bugs like Win98 at the release? Should I wait for the bugs to be worked out before getting it? And also, will it support the Windows 98/95 drivers, or do I need to wait for separate drivers? linux_guru 06-08-2000, 11:30 PM I'm with aBill on this one: Forget M$ and go for Unix/Linux. I'm not a gamer but a friend who is has Linux running on a P-166 & he runs it as a Quake server, Doom server and a Half-Life server ALL AT THE SAME TIME ! Try that with Windoze. And, it's a FREE O.S. krusty the klown 06-09-2000, 06:37 AM [smart @ss]yeah, but can he play Quake, Doom and Half Life on the p166[/smart @ss] SysOpt.com
