This humble and POOR Canadian can't decide on what to do. I have a Pentium 180 MMX with a VERY small 1 GB hard drive plus a Hercules Stingray 3dfx card.. I have two options:

a) a 333A Celeron with a 3.2 GB hard drive, 8MB of integrated onboard video and onboard 3D Sound Pro for $499 Canadian.
OR
b) upgrade my current system with an Evergreen Spectra which uses an AMD-K6-2 chip with MMX and 3Dnow, purchase a 3.2 GB hard drive plus a controller card for it, all for about $600 Canadian.

I would like to install the Stingray in the Celeron machine but you can't disable the integrated video on the mobo (PCChips, M717 mobo), but the dealer's techs have said that I can still install the Stingray in a PCI slot. He also said I caould install a sound card into it too. The Celeron is a 'take as is' deal with no changes in the motherboard or CPU. Which one do you think would be better for mostly gaming purposes? Any opinions? This meek and mild Canadian thanks you...

What do you need with a controller card for that HDD? If it's SCSI, wouldn't an EIDE drive be cheaper? Or is there something I'm missing?

Besides that, I'd suggest the first system. You might be able to get that 333a to hit 500 mhz. But make sure they don't stick you with an LX mainboard, really cheap systems usually come with one. But if it has a BX board, go for it. $499 CAN for that system is an awesome deal.

Just my $0.02 (canadian)

Buy the first one and trash the mobo. Replace it with a BX board. You'll spend about the same as the second system and it will be better than both.
