Hey Guys
I am starting MCSE class on Monday. Its a 3 month course broken down into 6 blocks. I will be attending 3 days a week / 4 hours each. I am pretty excited but havent been to real school since I was in the Air Force 13 years ago. I know several here have done this. Any good tips or suggestions?

Well good luck to you! That is a hell of a lot of information crammed into only 3 months!!! I am in my third week of a 7 1/2 month course 5 days a week. You can look forward to an awful lot of dry reading and lots of tests. Dont get discouraged if after the first little bit your head is in a fog, it gets better. Hopefully they will teach you something rather than just getting you to memorize the exam questions even though passing them is very important$$$$
Wish you well

Thanks
The instructor is suppose to be very good. I heard he has a way of making things very interesting. At least the fog will clear. Fortunately I am no stranger to NT. I would hope the beginning part will familiar and not foggy.

Time to move it up.
How's the classes going all you newbie MCSE's? I started my year long course 4 weeks ago. It's so long because it goes fairly slowly and starts with very basic stuff. It's geared so a person who has never turned on a computer could take it, although I fear they'd have a tough time of it.
I write the Windows test tomorrow, my 2nd section so far. I got 95% on the 1st section on software so I hope to keep up a high mark at least on the easy stuff! Then comes A+, Novell, TCP/IP, Unix, NT. That should put me in my place fairly quick.
Keep studying guys, and use this forum to post any questions or ideas http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

How ya doing Shadow! Im in my 3rd week now but we are taking Network Essentials first and all this stuff is new to me. 802.2 standards, token ring, FDDI, OSI model blah blah blah, mostly theory right now. Starting NT workstation tomorrow so hopefully more hands on stuff and will help tie in the theory that I am learning! Keep on learning!

It's kind of retarded that a lot of the courses throw NetEssentials in the front like that. For the majority of people taking the courses, the stuff you learn in there makes no sense until later on in the course anyway. It's straight memorization and it's not always fun, but once you get through that one, everything will start coming together. The best thing to do is get a hold of a copy of WinNT WS and Server to play with at home. It's invaluable. When you get a chance to do something hands on that you only get to read about in the book, do it!! You'll be amazed at how much more easily you'll remember it for the test.

Jman - best wishes on your course!
For me, typing out notes helped retain them when I was studying. Sounds like you're going to have a full plate, hang tough and you'll enjoy the desserts! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

How many tests are there to get MCSE? I know with Novell, there are 6. I have passed 3, 3 to go.
Is the A+ just one test? Or more?

A+ test is 2 tests, core and windows?
Hey Cyclone! Sounds like you get right into it there, wow. My course goe progressively as i said above. From the basics on up.
I got 3 wrong on my windows test so got a mark of 88%, ****, I wanted at least in the 90's. They love asking obscure questions on these tests. But now I'm in "introduction to the internet" Alot of history and terms in the book, very dry reading and no doubt there will be very obscure questions on the test once again.
Then it's onto two sections on dos, which get quite involved. I've met some great people and some real knowledgeable ones who will be of great help when I need it.
Best of luck to ya Cyclone, and all you other students!

Hey
I have had two classes now and cant get enough. We are only doing Workstation right now which is pretty basic. I see things getting more difficult especially after we get through server. I intend on testing after each block. There are six total.
Thanks for all the encouragement.
