Hi, I'm running SuSE Linux 6.2, and I'm having trouble getting my modem to work. It is a Creative Modem Blaster v.90 56k...not a cheesy winmodem. Under the Yast configurator, i selected all the available com ports, yet its an internal modem, so its not on com1 or com2. in win98 the modem is assigned to com4, and i tried that in linux, still doesn't work. even auto-detecting the modem under Yast didnt work. any ideas/suggestions please?

I can tell you how to get your modem working in LInux but not in "Plug and Play" mode. I tried in vain to get that very same modem working in using ISA plug and play tools for Linux to no avail.
If you want it to work do this:
Jumper the modem as non-plug and play, COM2, IRQ 3
Disable the on-board COM2 if applicable
In Linux (I assume you will be using KDE) tell "kppp" or whatever modem config utility you use that your modem is on /dev/ttys1 (this is Linux COM2), also tell Linux that your modem is a generic Rockwell chipset 56K
Of course you will have to remove the old modem from Windows and reinstall it so it works again in Windows.
If you have any more problems just let us know.
