I got hit with the "UNIX VIRUS" today.

It was a plain text e-mail that said that due to design limitations in the O/S the virus writer was unable to write a coherent piece of code which would be able to access my system files with ROOT priviledges.

I was therefore honor bound to start deleting files from my computer at random, then propogate the virus to everyone on my mailing list.

Does anyone have a fix for this problem?

ooooh ... this one sounds evil. i recommend for starters to log in as root and then chmod and don't give any other accounts (yours included) access to any files.

Does Microsoft have a patch for this?

yeah i'm sure .... as far as M$ is concerned their patch to fix a unix problem is called 'windows', supposedly you just install it and it solves all of your problems. my linux boxes and i aren't buying the hype though.

Has this "Windows" patch-thing been field tested?

Can't I just copy a user.dat/system.dat into the root directory? *CHUCKLE*

Even if I run that "Windows" patch, won't I be susceptible to the UNIX VIRUS again?

I AM honor bound to delete random files and folders you know.......

I think Psyklone means windows OS, not a patch!!!!

Microsoft has the idea that when you install any version of windows, you will no longer have any problems.

Although I do have Win_98 SE, I don't buy that, and anybody who does, should have themself checked, or have never seen Windows. LOL
