Thats it, our car stereo finally put the car off the road......

Let me explain, You may of heard me say that subs cause a lot of rattles in cars, well ours went a step further....

Underneath the subs, the chassis of the car actually cracked!!!!!!!!!!

Some say it was rust, but I think they're crazy.... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

That's worse than me!! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I've severely misaligned parts (trunk deck, suspension, doors, etc.) with my stereo, but never cracked the frame!

Too much bump + too much rust = severe cracking.

And they wonder why we only spend a couple hundred or a couple grand on a car....
Leaves more left over for the sound system of course http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I remember a car driving by my place here... It's stereo had so much bass that the trunk lid rattling was actually louder than the music (If you call that music). Unbelievable... lol

Eli, are you sure? I don't remember ever being in Canada! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

when i first moved to texas i spent $1100 on a car and then spent $1500 on the stereo...the rubber sealant of the trunk kind of came loose and wsa getting forced out from air pressure at onepoint...but then i totalled the car agaisnt a cadillac...oh well

Heh, that's why I'll probably NEVER get subs http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Don't want the car to fall apart! And I don't really like my bass that loud. Just got some 6X9's installed...put them in carpeted boxes, I must say they are way louder than my other set of 6's, but the bass is a little disappointing...I thought I'd get more http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif But I like the new found loudness...

My friend blew open the back hatch in his VW Golf, as he had 4 15" subs firing back, and 3 firing towardws the driver and passenger http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Gutterball, do not put 6x9's in boxes!!!!!

A trunk is a much better box than those little things... You really lose a lot of bass by putting them in those puny boxes....

What kinda car you got? You might be able to put them somewhere that still uses the trunk as the box....... I know someone who owns a Mazda Precidia and he has this lid over the trunk, he cut two holes in it and put in some pioneer 6x9's. My god, what a difference over the stockers!!!!!!!

Inferior: Huh? I got a 93 Accord. They don't fit properly on my rear deck(stupid deck has 6X9 outlines, but they're not straight! My amp is in the way on the one side and I need the other side to mount my CD changer. And I'm not sure what they are, but they're 2 black bars that criss cross across the bottom of my rear deck so the 6x9's might not fit anyway :/ That's why I went with boxes). And yes, I do notice that I have a lot LESS bass than my old 6's! Hmm, maybe you could email me with some more details, if you don't mind? I tried looking at my trunk, but I honestly dunno where to put them, so I could still hear them :/ Maybe I'll have to go to stereo shop and have them do it somehow. Maybe free air will work better?

Inferior sorry but you are incorrect. It really depends on the amount of air space required by those particular speakers.

I had a pair of Kicker 6x9's, the bi-amplification ones, and they sounded way better in a box I built. The bass output drastically increased and they sounded much tighter and less boomy. Some people thought I had ten's in there.

I forgot to mention this was in a 69'Chevell so maybe I just had to much airspace. But I had another pair of some flea market specials in a 73' Old's (??? is was a yacht) and they sounded great. And that thing had a trunk you could put a mattress in.

Yes Jad! They are much louder and "crisper" than my other 6's were! I have to fade to the front cause those 6x9's are way louder than my front 6's and all my speakers seem to be louder in general. (And I have some tweeters coming! They're flush mount, but that's okay I guess http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif ) Before you could barely hear the tunes outside my car, now you can hear 'em nicely! BUT if I cut out the highs with my amp's low pass filter, I get NOTHING out of the 6x9's! The bass coming outta there is soooooo wimpy. I don't really know what else I can do...maybe I'll get a powered sub? They have a nice bazooka tube at the shop(Audiovox, $70Canadian), that they guy said would give me more bass, but not too much. I dunno http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif What I thought was an easy "cut and paste" isn't so easy afterall :/ Sigh http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Thanks for all the tips again. Later!

What amp do you have? Is it bridgeable? If so I would get something like a singe 8" or 10" subwoofer to give you that little bit of lower end you are looking for. Don't be fooled by the small size of an 8" sub they can sound great if you are not looking for something that is extremely load @ 20HZ. In most music the loudest bass/mid bass is from 80-180HZ, well somewhere around there if I remember right.

I would not recommend anything made by audiovox. IMHO 99.9999% of what they make is garbage.

Yep, my amp is bridgeable, I think. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif It's a 4/3/2 whatever that means. It has a separate set of RCA outputs for that. It's a 200 watt amp and I'm running it at 4 x 50RMS right now. I'm seriously considering getting a small sub, but I don't want another amp...BUT I'm sure my current amp can't power 4 speakers and a sub http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif So I'll need another amp. Ah well, we'll see how it goes...I like my newfound "loudness", but I liked the bass output of my old 6's more. I'll keep my current setup, I mean...lots of bass isn't everything right http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Did you ever see the Sony Explode subs at futureshop?

They have this great 12, it has some serious kick and yet it is a good price!!!!

Here's the explode: http://www.futureshop.ca/can_deploy/plsql/inde xframe.findframe?eccookie=&acct=false&aisle=ca&ecpid=21287&ecpiid=21258&ecsid=2863 (http://www.futureshop.ca/can_deploy/plsql/indexframe.findframe?eccookie=&acct=false&aisle=ca&ecpid=21287&ecpiid=21258&ecsid=2863)

And here's another that looks good but I never heard it and has a good price: http://www.futureshop.ca/can_deploy/plsql/indexframe.findframe?eccookie=&acct=false&aisle=ca&ecpid=21108&ecpiid=21079&ecsid=2863

Note* These prices are in Canadian, so they do not cost a mint to americans.... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Inferior: I've done it! I regained my trunk as my "box"!!! Here's what I did. I took apart those puny 6x9 boxes and just used the parts with the hole in them. I made a 2" frame around the edges and then resealed everything with carpet. The bottoms are still open. Then I mounted the boxes over the holes where my 6's used to go, siliconed the gaps, and whoop! I got my bass back!!! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif SWEET! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I'm sure it would be louder if I could cut into the rear deck, but this way is pretty close! Ahhhhh, much more bass than my 6's http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Now I can't wait for my tweets to come in and I'll be okay http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Way to go Gutterball!!!!!!!!

Told you there would be a great increase in bass!!!! The trunk is actually one of the best boxes for speakers.....

Hey F=ma, We paid 1500 bucks canadian for the car 3 years ago and got like 70,000 kms out of it with pretty much only replacing the oil..... So that was a good old car, and I will miss it.....

Man, american cars are the best!!!! Now we have a Pontiac Grand Prix and it really owns!!!!

BTW, how did you do those faces?
