just picked up a model 56ifxv(c) modem. ISA has a little speaker on it so assume voice? has cirrus logic chips. says will work with dos 6 so is not a win modem? on a clearance table for $16.00. did I waste $16.00, should I go back and get the other two. for future use ? ( supposedly marked down from 129.00)

Almost all modems have speakers - this does not indicate voice capabilities. Yes, if it works in DOS it probably isn't a winmodem.
I bought one of these from Best Buy for $29.99 after a $30 rebate when Newcom was in business, even though it was a 56k modem it never connected much faster than a 33.6 even with new drivers and an software upgrade. I wouldn't run back and purchase any more. I was never happy with this modem I didn't keep it long.

I had one of those and it worked great for me..... consistenly connected at 52k and worked pretty darn well. Gave it to my friend when I got cable modem, and he is still using it to this day.
Newcom did in fact go out of business, but the drivers and firmware upgrades are still out there on the web.
I am traveling the next two weeks for business, but if you can't find drivers and firmware upgrades Alondra, let me know and I can probably get them to you when I return home.
