Ok I've waited twice for their technicians to show up and install my dsl but no one showed up twice. Now I figure the best option is to do the self install which means,

"Customer Self-Install DSL makes use of customer-installed low pass microfilters for each line analog device (typically telephones, fax machines, etc). The intent of the filters is to filter out any DSL signal noise from your voice service, allowing both voice and data to share common inside wiring. These filters are placed between the analog devices and the phone jack(s) and do not require any tools for installation.

Now how much of a perfomance hit do I take for this kind of install. thx http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

PacBell DSL is great as long as nothing goes wrong. The Tech support is OK, but if there's a problem with your line and you have to deal with the DSL Maintenance Center - WATCH OUT!

I had a problem with my DSL line and can honestly say that trying to get it resolved was, by far, the worst customer service experience of my life. Took over a month to get it fixed and In that time I made at least 50 phone calls, talked to dozens of different PacBell employees and waited on hold for more than 30 hours. Luckily I documented everything and won't have to pay my $39.95 per month until November...

Mine was installed back when they used a single splitter for voice/data throughout the house rather than filters. Filters are the newer technology. I transferred around 150k/s routinely downstream. Usually that was impaired by the server I was connected to, not the line, because downloading from multiple sources would peak around that number.
