The Microsoft® Windows® Shell Development Team has put together a set of productivity tools called PowerToys. If you're a Windows power-user, go ahead and try them out, but realize these are unsupported tools. Microsoft Technical Support is unable to answer questions about PowerToys.

NOTE: This download is not intended for use on computers running Microsoft® Windows® 98, or on computers running Microsoft® Windows® 95 OSR 1 or earlier versions.

System Requirements
Microsoft Windows 95 OSR2

Just a simple question why if they say not to?

I'm not sure on this as I don't use Win98(I hate it after what it did to me!) but I seem to remember someone saying the powertoys for Win98 were actually included on the CD somewhere. Anyone else got any more info?

To answer your question: Saying something is not "intended for use" is not the same as saying "it can't be safely used for use with...". It's more like "C.Y.A." It could be that MS has not tested it on '98 and or that they have no intention of doing so.

interesting...when the original powertoys95 first came out (looks like the ones at MS's site are an upgrade of the original), there was NO caveat about Win95 osr1 or earlier.

I run Win98 ( not SE )
I am running ALL the win95 powertoys, including tweakui. i am also running MS's powerkernel toys. They all work. I havent had any problems that I have noticed.

No guts...no glory....

Put in your Win98 CD-Rom. Click on, Browse this CD. Then click the folders: tools/reskit. There are your free resource tools.

cd://tools/reskit/powertoy = Tweak U.I.

A few months ago, someone at work came to me with a "weird" problem - two of her right-click options were disabled (greyed-out) when she right-clicked her Start button. I found that it was a bug in Tweakui 98. I decided to experiment with the program on one of my own computers and found another bug - "Stretch to fit" dissappeared from Display Properties => Background. I did some checking and found an article -Buggy TweakUI (http://members.aol.com/AXCEL216/98-3.htm#TWK98). I also did a search in MS's site (http://search.microsoft.com/us/default.asp) for tweakui and found more than a few references to bugs. Someone told me there's a new beta available that's less buggy, but I haven't checked into it. With all the bugs, it's no wonder MS didn't put it on the 98SE CD.
