I got Win98 (not SE) installed. I have bootdisks for 95 & 98 and a Win95 upgrade CD.
Is it possible to replace 98 with 95 with what I have?

In a word, "NO."

I do not believe it is possible to "upgrade" any Windows version with a "previous" version. However, it would be possible to format and start all over again from scratch, or to delete the Windows directory and reinstall another Windows version - but you would have to reinstall all the other programs to rebuild the registry and transplant all their necessary DLLs. Another issue is that of FAT32 support - if your Win95 upgrade is version "A" and you are currently using Win98 with a drive/partition size larger than 2GB then you would not be able to support that drive/partition size with Win95A.

Also, to use the W95 upgrade CD I believe you would have to at least have a copy of the Win3.1 disk 1 in order to install the upgrade.

My suggestion is to work out your problems (if any) with Win98 (you can make it look just like 95 in every way), it is quite good and much more stable than 95. OR you could obtain a copy of Win95C (version "C" OSR2.5), which I'm sure you will find the best of all Win95 versions.

~~edit: added info on FAT32 support
