When I try to install my modem it doesn't dectect, so I select it and it ask me which port to install it on. But there aren't any listed. If i go to Control Panel -> Ports, com 1-4 are listed. So any one know what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks.

Here's something that may be worth a shot. Before the flames start, let me say that, yes, I know that this is not supported by MS. They even say so in their KB.
But, a couple of years ago, I was having NO luck setting up a sound card, modem, and printer with NT 4.0. 'Til I tried this.
In Control Panel | Devices, there is a device called PnP ISA Enabler Driver. Start it and reboot. You'll get some HW detection dialogues a bit like Win9x.
Although MS says that PnP ISA Enabler is not as easy to use as Win9x PnP, here's the part I really like: you can see the resources for each device and any conflicts (ala Win9x). But, when you see a conflict, you don't have to come up with your own IRQ/DMA settings. There is a dropdown list of presets. Pick one and see if it works (I never had to go past the first alternate).
After you get the new HW set up, turn the PnP ISA Enabler back off. THAT's the part that MS didn't mention in is KB article. It only says that leaving it running could cause problems. I just run it once for new HW, then shut it back off.
Haven't had a setup-related HW problem since.

I don't know about your Modem but if it is possible, jumper it to a fixed Com port and Irq setting. (NON PnP) If you are not using Com2 for something else, jumper your Modem to Com2/Irq3 and disable onbord Com2 in Bios. NT will then detect it fine. Above suggestion to enable limited PNP suppot may work but from my expierence, it is hit or miss.
Depending on how far you want to go with this thing, you might also try this page for ideas and registry hacks

Also - have you checked the on-line hardware compatibility list (HCL) on the MS site to see if NT will recognize that modem.
Lastly - don't forget you have to reinstall the service pack when you're done setting up that modem. They are up to service pack 6a - BTW - DON'T use any copy of SP 6 - major winsock problem especially with the LOTUS winsocks.
