scourge

I recently upgraded from 98 to 98SE. Have noticed virtually no differences in performance, stability or any other problems that I've read about here. The only thing that's screwy is during shutdown, it never gets to the "It is now safe to shutdown your computer" screen. It hangs at the "Windows is shutting down screen". Minor nuisance, but I thought someone might know how to fix it. I thought it might have something to do with the soft power on/off stuff, but I've never used that before. I have an AT case with an FIC 503+ mobo. Thanks in advance for your wisdom.

Here is your fix. I was at the Tyan web site and I thought of you.
Win 95 shutdown screen problem can be solved by changing the Video Off Method to "Blank" instead of "V/H sync + Blank" under the Power Management Setup menu. Enable the OnChip USB under the Chipset Features Setup menu, and enable Assign IRQ for VGA under PNP/PCI Configuration in the BIOS menu.

Look on the Tyan web site. I have a Tyan motherboard that was doing the same thing. There's minor BIOS change that fixes this.
I would tell you what it is but I'd have to shut down my computer to get to the information.
