Right, I have 1gb of MP3z that I have collected over time, but obviously I want to expand that.
I want to d/l Napster and run it, but I though it had been shut down??
Is it easy to use?? What are the implications?? Could I be sued for having the MP3z and sharing them?? How do they (Metallica for example) know who I am?? Do I have to give personal details??
Cheers for the help,
Lee.

Napster is extremely easy to use. You would be surprised at just how easy. I'm sure at some point in the future it will be shut down. I would suggest downloading it and getting all you can in the mean time. I would not be concerned about getting sued. The odds are in your favor. If you don't want to take the time to download it then go buy a copy of Maximumpc. Make sure it has a Cd with it and not the AOL kind. It should contain the newest version of Napster and have fun. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

The servers are often down. Try again in a few hours. Version 6 is a bit buggy from what I can tell. I believe they rushed its release int he wake of the Metallica/ Dr. Dre thing.

Napster is great but I have stuck with version 5 after hearing too many bad things about 6. I have the setup for 5 if you want it let me know. It's about 650K.
What bad things have you heard about Beta 6? I've been using it since I, uh, signed up for a new nickname http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif and haven't had any problems at all. In fact it's worked far better than Beta 5 ever has.

Mostly based on an earlier thread.
Quote:
"Yep, napster uploaded a trojan registry key to keep me from accessing napster. If you log onto napster and it automatically runs a "beta 6 performance upgrade, it hacks your registry."

You can't really fault Beta 6 for that. I could no longer sign on with Beta 5, but it said something about "update failed" or something like that. I then downloaded and installed Beta 6, which then tole me about Metallica banning me. It doesn't look like any more of a registry hack than Beta 5 to me...
