I am using the automated windows notification. Everytime it informs me that there are updates, I attempt to go view them. When I get there it informs me that I have the lates updates, then nothing happens. I have installed windows 98se and have not updated anything. I know it is not the latest, so what is giving me these errors? Thanks for the help...
I don't really understand your problem, but if its failing to update check your security settings. they are most likely too high. Check the settings and make sure they are enabled and/or not set too high.

Hi OurSea
Cord is on the money. Check your Internet Security settings. If you have things like Java, Active Scripting, ActiveX controls, cookies, etc., disabled, the page won't load properly. Enable these settings, and try again, then after your updates you can reset them.

I am on medium security and I checked my controls. The only thing I found off was java consol and java loggin. I set them on, but still no luck. I try to update, and even am told that I have an older version of IE 5.0. I download the file, then I get the prompt that I have a newer version then the one I am trying to download. I tried to contact microsoft, but I was told to uninstall I.E., but was also told that it would most likely mess up my machine and to be ready for a complete reload. Does this make sense? Thanks once again for the help.

I do know that uninstalling IE4 has some dangers.. http://www.ehelpfree.com/nathan/#ima3
BUT.. I don't have win98SE (Win98 here)and I wouldn't presume to suggest what the next step may be.
Someone here will likely have some suggestions for you.
Sorry to not be able to help you further, and good luck with this.

How do you connect to the internet? I have seen some problems using Window Update when connecting through a proxy server. I can usually work around the problem by fushing the cache'd files from the proxy server software.

Do you get the popup window the say they are checking your computer for updates? The page I go to is http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
I think I have to click on the product update link on the right. I do not use the automatic update thing though.
Or you can go to http://updates.zdnet.com and their site could scan your computer tell you all the updates you need for most of your software. I have used this and it seems to work fine.

Windows 98 2nd edition got you too. Good Luck

Is this the full version or the update? If it's the update, for my own experience, you'll probably have to reformat, install Win 98 then install 2nd edtition. Once you have this working install your other apps and it should work out. As for myself, I'm sticking with Win 98 4.10. 1998, w/ IGMP Security Update, TELNET Update, and Year 2000 Update 2
Again best of luck, but I learned my lesson with 2nd edition
