I use a Biostar mobo (www.biostar-usa.com/)with a 440BX chipset that holds my Slot 1 slightly OC'ed 333 MHz MMX (343 MHz) Celeron. This motherboard and chipset will accomodate up to a 800 MHz Intel PIII. I use voice recognition software and I have never enjoyed a bus frequency over 66 MHz. I intend to install 128 MB PC130 SDRAM. I'm psyched about the step up in performance. Any comments regarding my plan, i.e., good, bad, indifferent?

Thx.

Are you planning on buying an 800 Mhz P3? Because that is mighty expensive. I'd recommend the 533A celeron or the 566 Celeron. Those are pretty much guaranteed to hit 800~900, and it'll be a LOT less.

I wasn't very clear. I intended to write that I'm interested in installing an Intel PIII 600B. The 600B has the 133 MHz bus frequency (to my understanding), whereas the 600 has the 100 Mhz bus frequency. I find the PIII attractive because of the bus,the caches and the additional instructions. Am I missing something about the Celeron? Aren't the Celerons limited to 66 Mhz bus? And less cache?

Thanks for your help!

Get the 600e as it will run on the 133 fsb just fine and will give you a cool 800mhz with default voltage and cooler..at least mine and many others have.

Brydon, I'm no expert (barely a novice!) at overclocking. My mobo / chipset specs state that it will support 100 fsb and 130 fsb. How would I push the 600E 100 Mhz fsb to 133 Mhz? Jumpers on the mobo allow me to adjust for the chip I'm using. I've no idea how to increase fsb to 133 Mhz...

I'd love to get to 800 Mhz, especially if it will run on the 133 fsb with default voltage and cooler, but how is that done?

Thanks! I'm eager to hear more.
