Where can I download FREE Caldera Linux

Is Caldera free anywhere? I visited a few sites that wanted 50 bucks... I thougth Linux was supposed to be free!

Caldera uses a lot of comerical software in it's distribution, as well as a proprietary installer program, thus the latest version of it is not available for download. You can, however, download older versions free. But I'd recommend getting either a) Red Hat, b) Mandrake or c) Debian, as they use no proprietary & comercial software, and are completely free and available for download.

If you are new to Linux, you should probably go with Red Hat or Mandrake. Debian is supposedly a little more advanced.

i want linux for free too!!!
linux is free and u can download it for free from the net, but i heard that the size of the download is like 1000 megabytes or 1gigabyte, this is why i gave up about downloading it. u have to have a very fast internet connection to copy that much. /forum/frown.gif

I'm intending to get a copy burned by my local university IT faculty at cost, just to explore it. You might want to check that option out, either through their shop or as a friendly gesture. PC fairs tend to have copies for £2-£5, no paper documentation, though I'm sure you could get some for a price /forum/smile.gif

I was at Sam's Club a couple of weeks ago and saw a pkg setup w/redhat & caldera & a book on using linux for $25. Went back a week later & it was gone. They said they mite get some more in, so you mite want to try a Sam's around you.

You might want to try redhat.com. The RH6.1 is out and it is supposed to be very easy and does not require repartitioning (swap part., root part, user part. etc...) I have always bought from Cheapbytes.com. they send the cd for about $6-7 and you can make a bootable floppy from the disk image or you can boot from the cd if your BIOS supports it. It is much easier than trying to navigate the RH site and the download is excrutiatingly long.
