Alright....lemme get this straight: DRD drives can play DVD movies, read CD-Rs and CD-RWs, right?? AND act as a huge CD-RW by using recordable 5gb DRDs, right?? So why doesn't everyone get one of these and not a plain jane DVD drive?

I posted this link last week: http://www.thebigstore.com/dept/product.asp?src=sl&s str=&cat=&pid=260137&TITLE=8X+DVD%2DROM+DRIVE+DRD%2D8080BI+SINGLE+PACK (http://www.thebigstore.com/dept/product.asp?src=sl&sstr=&cat=&pid=260137&TITLE=8X+DVD%2DROM+DRIVE+DRD%2D8080BI+SINGLE+PACK)

or you could get it a Buy.com: http://www.us.buy.com/comp/product.asp?sku=10233498

Whadya think?

*EDIT-
I just found DVD-RAM drives which I've heard a bit about: http://www.us.buy.com/comp/product.asp?sku=10221725

What is the difference? What I got from the description is that this can play DVD movies as long as you have a decoder card.

Can it play on a cd player?? ...you can record up to 10 hours of CD-quality...

Dude,
Those LGElectronic's look like they only PLAY DRD's. For 99.00 I wish it could record. They didn't have much info at Buy.com

The Creative on the other hand might be worth it. I think I'll wait untill the second generation of DRD Drives come out. I bought a 1st generation CD-R and it failed after about 6months. Of course that was 1997.

Isn't the media a bit pricey? I think a blank dvd disk runs about $40.00 retail. Buffer underruns to common at 40.00 a piece. I will wait til the media drops. Dont they have a new generation coming out the summer. Like double the capacity?
