Has anyone here ever had any problems with TweakUI. I can do a few things with the registry but TweakUI makes it easier to change some settings. What is every ones Opinion of it?

Well, I like it! I tend to leave the registry alone and if I do tinker, I use rogeredit (rogered it with regedit http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif ). I mostly like the little boot menu option, cos it's a pain in the @ss having to boot to windoze then exit. I haven't found that the repair options did anything, but praps the problems I was having at the time weren't related to those options.

Occasionally I use the general, new and explorer options, too.

Gets the thumbs up from me........ why it wasn't included in windoze in the first place is beyond me, tho!

Where can u download it?

Also, I was thinking of downloading this program--> http://www.sharewarejunkies.com/9zwd11/xteq_xsetup.htm

It's also a windows tweak tool, but also does other things like lock users out of your system, protect important files, etc. by logging in attempts to access your files and blocking them, sort of like a Desktop Manager, Registry Tweak, Windows Tweak, and Security all in one.

Which do u think is better?

Jadison,

I don't know where you download it, but if you want, I can email it (just email me and ask http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif )(~150k?) and installation instructions.

I got the info and link from www.regedit.com (http://www.regedit.com) nice little site. I think there is a link to it from the links page here on SYSOPT.

P.S. I really liked the part about adding or editing the info in system properties. Really good I came up with my own little LOGO and Support Info. Really COOL http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Looked great when I first pulled it down from MS power toys, but have since ripped it out of every system I administer because it caused me to have multiple registry crashes which were quite painful to recover from.

I mostly used it to adjust the look of shortcuts and have since started using some freeware called transparency which I've not had a problem with in months. Otherwise, as I was attempting to recover from one of several Tweakui registry crashes, I started reading reviews and MS q helpfiles and then quickly started uninstalling it everywhere I had it loaded.....

My advice - avoid Tweakui - you risk damaging your registry with it.....

I second Axel.

It may be a "cute" little app, but it can cause so very bad problems.

I rip it out of each machine I come across. Try some of the other programs, they should be a little more stable. I personally use a PACT SaveLayout program that savess the location of the icons on your desktop.

Ugh, poor spelling.

The only problem I've heard of, is poeple using the wrong version on their OS. For instance using Win98's version on NT or Win95. You are supposed to be able to use Win 95's version on NT (but not recommended on Win98 or 2000).

That's about it, I've kept the right version with the right OS and I've never had a problem with it.

axle where did you get transparency. is that the program that makes the desktop icons seem too float on the wallpaper? blend ininto the back ground colors that i saw when everybody showed thier desktops.
