yeah !!!
ripped of someone ?
put all the fastest components in one case
and you are there !!
then take the normal components and put them also in a case and voila your fax server is
ready !!!!!

Be careful with what video and sound you decide to use, use the older ones, Linux doesnt support too much...

To my mind linux works best with hardware that is about 1-2 years old. This gives time for drivers to be written and tweaked.
I only have a few comments based on my experience.
unless you want some kind of larger server the 2.5 meg HD should do fine.
I would use 64 meg of memory
THere are lots of troubles with cd changers I would use any of the others. The more anticipated use of the CD the faster I would choose. Remember that you will have to mount and unmount each CD as you use it,
this can be a pain so I tend to use CD's less often.
my linux box has the S3-Trio64V+ and it works fine with the X windows.
The modem must NOT be a win modem, if not it will work fine.
Use the soundblaster, they are about the only sound cards that have drivers available
as part of the open source distribution. Many other sound cards require purchasing commercial driver software.
Most of the decision on what to use will be based your anticipated use. If you just want to make linux box so you can learn poke around and play then I would save the fastest stuff for another system. You learn just as much setting up 75 mhz system as setting up a 300 mhz system. On the other hand if you want to set this up and use it to do work then I would pick the fastest component as suggested above.
Good luck on whatever you decide, and keep us posted on yor progress http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

As long as they aren't winmodems, you can still use PCI modems under Linux. Almost all ISA modems can be used in Linux.
Check here:
Modem HOWTO
http://www.redhat.com/mirrors/LDP/HOWTO/Modem-HOWTO.html
ISP Hookup HOWTO
http://www.redhat.com/mirrors/LDP/HOWTO/ISP-Hookup-HOWTO.html
Sorry that I wasn't much help, but I never had to set up a modem in Linux before. Just always used the ADSL.

linux because its not that easy to master !
I have got internet problems but cd writing
in KDE is no problem and veruy stable !
so pop up the discussions !!!

Unless that PCI modem is one of the rare "1 in a thousand" hardware modems, you have a "Winmodem" (software modem) and as of yet there are no drivers for them in Linux..you will not be able to get that modem working I think...
and I certainly wish you luck with that soundcard and Redhat 5.2
