I have a Hayes external modem and cannot get it to run under Red Hat 6.0. It seems that the hand-shake is fine, and I'm receive something. But then its disconnects. I seems that I cannot authenicate. I dual-boot also, and the modem works there fine w/ Win 98.

Agrhh!

Sorry I do not have any specific answers, but here is a shot in the dark:

So your modem is dialing but not able to get a carrier or is it connecting to the server and not able to sign you on as a user?

If the first is true then you might try some changes in the modem configuration/ initialization string/error control etc. I know I had to change some settings regarding error control or data compression, I forget what, but before I would only get connected about 1 out of 5 attempts and then i would get disconnected randomly.

If the second is true then perhaps something in your ppp configuration or password. If the server is using PAP then configuring you system should be a breeze.

First I would check with your ISP and see if there is anything special you need to do in order to connect with Linux,

You may also try searching the FAQs here: http://www.redhat.com/cgi-bin/support?faq for additional ideas.

Also post your question here: www.trail.com/~popeye/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro (http://www.trail.com/~popeye/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro) there are a lot of RedHat6 users there.
