It's called surfinguard. It makes a "sandbox" that you run exe's in that is separate from your system. So if it's infected with anything it won't get to you.
I just read about it. here is the link http://www.finjan.com/products_home.cfm

Hmmm. The SurfinGate looks interesting... it would be nice to run Java/ActiveX enabled - and securely, anyway.
Why didn't you like SurfinGuard, psyklone?
Edit: Re SurfinGate. The listed OS's are only Win95/NT, and be prepared to fill out a long registration form. Then they'll let you know via email if they "approve" or "deny" you... to download. lol

It does look interesting. From the outside, I see more benifets. Wouldn't it be good to have a virus open up in its own little "cage" (SurfinGuard)?

This is the first I have heard of this product, and it does sound interesting. I would also appreachiate if someone would try it and comment on how it works.
(my test system is unavailible right now)

I hear you Dave-underline-H http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I wanted some input to see if it was worth installing. I seem to really be cluttering my systm with junk lately.
It does sound good though.

socal ...
the reason i didn't like was that in theory, it's a great idea ... but it's not very practical. after a couple of hiccups i just uninstalled it (by the way, when you uninstall it you'll need to go back in and delete the program folder because the uninstall doesn't do that for you http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif ) so i don't know the ins and outs of it completely. the most bothersome part to me was that after installing it i could not install anything that makes system file updates ... which could have been anything from a virus to a windows update or internet explorer upgrade ... the program doesn't care and it doesn't tell you "this program is attempting to replace/update system file _____, do you want to continue?" it just goes "oops! thanks for playing, game over!" and i didn't like that.
to me it just seems like overkill. if you watch what you download, try and only download from reputable sites, and run a good scan on it, most of the time that will suffice. many of the proggies and apps, the larger ones, that are available these days do make additions and edits within the c:\windows\system directory and having to turn off a preventative measure (surfinguard) just to install completel defeats the purpose.
if anyone has any good experiences or points to make otherwise i'm all ears!

I don't know of the software you refer to, but I know of a product that is the best use of software I have ever seen (9 yrs development AND a perfectionist, I might add).
www.VMWare.com (http://www.VMWare.com)
I used it when Linux coughed on my SCSI card. Loaded linux as a VMWare virtual machine on NT and I been pretty happy with it (vmware and Linux) ever since. It offers total protection from crashing the OS. The funny thing is, I would prefer to run Linux and then a VMWare NT virtual machine. Overall THAT would be a more stable platform.
