Greetings... I know this has been posted before, I did a search but didnt quite find exactly what I wanted- So I apologize to those who have heard this before... Alright, here it goes: I havent played DII for a while, with the expansion set out now, I decided to complete the game again... However, I load the game without updates- it works... I download updates for online play and now when I try to run, the cdrom spins but I get the famous error- "Please make sure play cd is inserted in cdrom." I have emailed blizzard and received "suggestions"- none of which work. Now, I am frustrated. I had pretty much the same system config when I played 6 months ago- what has changed? Their patches. So, my question is- does anyone know of a resolution? ALSO, AND MORE IMPORTANT, will someone email a link to a site that provides the no-cd crack, I think this should resolve the issue. I have been searching for the last half-hour (I know, not a long time- but I have spent several hours on this and I am either going to use my DII cd's as coasters or frisbees at this point http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif )
Thanks in Advance!

This is a shot in the dark but try it out:
I read somewhere once about a CD-ROM Issue that popped up with patch 1.09. Something about master/slave settings on your drive and the game no longer being able to recognize it.
visit www.diabloii.net (http://www.diabloii.net) and look for a "1.09 bug bytes" section, I think it was in there somwhere. I only saw it once while reading some random stuff.

Greetings... update: I was unable to find specific known "Please insert play disc" issues concerning update patch 1.09. However, there were several references to the issue under techical support and bugs in general. I attempted all suggestions without success. However, I uninstalled DII, reinstalled all, then only updated to patch 1.07. In single player mode, all was fine. This leads me to believe that the prob does exist either in 1.08 or 1.09- both pertaining to the expansion set cd's. I have more emails out to Blizzard and some other sites with this info and requesting more suggestions. As I know I am not the only one with this prob, I will post updates until a legit solution is found. Consequently, the other info requested was unsuccessful- it hung and crashed.

do a google search for "The Hardcore Gaming Experience", and the top link should point you in the direction you want.

Thats what I thought... the post was to a site that had all info... as a matter of fact- when I did a "Diablo II info and resource" search... it was the 4th site that came up! Anyway, still does not help- but thanks for the effort (before deleted). Still, forget about previous request... obviously not cool here (but it tells me that the prob is not with the cd or my owner numbers)... I still believe that the prob lies with either 1.08 or 1.09 patch- I will let you know what Blizzard support says...

LOL- pretty bad!@!!!!! Trying to solve a prob- not use a cheat... there is A dif..
Mortis
It's called user knowledge and experience- much more than any crack or WHATEVER you experienced (dont know about you- but i Paid about $80 for the DII game and expansion set- now i am looking for the 80 worth to work... My same posts here exist at blizzard and beyond--- and i expect my monies worth... blizzard does not have a prob with it as they gave me instructions to install to hd... not much dif than I asked emailed to me (not posted)... anyway- pt is this, to date- not yet solved!
People, forget about the no-cd crack, I got that not only from here but also from blizzard... it did not work... either I have a at this time faulty DII install cd or a faulty expansion play cd- that is what we (blizzard and my phone calls) are testing at this time---- will let you know what happens! I would provide the no-cd test*given by blizzard* but it would be construed as either a hack or "wazard-... what was it called?"...
(a warez... hehe- be serious!!! what I asked for was far from anything harmful- you cant copy a cd if ya dont own it! (without cheating) Did I ask for more? Please be aware of the dif... I asked to be emailed- if ya look at the links that were provided it was to top 10 sites on a search for Diablo II... One of which is officially owned by blizzard!)

You did not post a link that was outside the limits of Sysopt's policies. Actually, this is one of the instances where a cd crack could be justified, but it is a rare case. since cracks usually go hand-in-hand with piracy, they can't be dealt with here. (BTW, no problem Makaveli.)

I understand that the following will almost certainly have no effect on posting policies for this site, nonetheless I feel the no_cd crack comments in this thread deserve a response.
No_CD cracks are not merely a pirating tool... imho not by a long shot.
God bless the software developer who wants to protect his IP, if they feel that cd locks are helpful, fine with me. That said, the bottom line is that the customer is always right... and I'm the customer.
My game cd's are mine.
I bought em, and I shall use them for my private, non-profit enjoyment as I see fit... just as I read and re-read books from my personal library as I see fit. No software developer shall ever successfully restrict my private use of the products I have purchased, just as no book publisher shall ever restrict my us and enjoyment of my books. I say again, I bought them, they are mine... I don't copy em and hand out reprints on the corner, but my copy is paid for, it is mine, and I'll run it, and mod it, as I see fit.
These disk are the ultimate backup of my property. These disk are NOT used by me on a day-to-day basis... there are my original copies and are kept to the side in their cases. These disk are NOT left lying about where little fingers can abuse them.
BTW, my kids don't eat there PB&J sandwiches of Grandma's china either.
I am not a pirate, but I use no_cd cracks on every piece of software I own that needs it. It protects my property... ironically this is the reason the software developer put the cd check on the disk in the first place... to protect the the status of the property for its rightful owner.

I dont know if you got the problem resolved or not. I have some info you might want. I have had Diablo 2 for a while a long while and i has always worked. Well up untill i got the expansion then for some reason the original game would install but not play. I think that was your problem too. Well I came up with a plan such as get a no_cd crack and play the game but as everyone who has ever got a no_cd crack before it doesnt work for internet play i cant stress that enough. Any way get the no_cd crack install run all is good. Then install the expansion. The game will run off of the expansion and not the origianl cd. Such as when you go to play the game it will say insert the expansion cd and not the play cd. If you are looking for any kind of no_cd crack or patch then always check out www.gamecopyworld.com (http://www.gamecopyworld.com) they update there site everyday and is considered one of the best. And if you are wondering no_cd cracks are not illegal and yes you can have them. It just runs the game without cchecking for cd thus no internet play... hope that was helpfull

I have a LEGALLY purchsed copy of Diablo II and then I bought the expansion pack.
Love the game.
Problem is, EVERY time I go to Battlenet to play, I get screwed!!!
I have tried everything!
Pathces, no_cd programs, patches exe you name it.
I can ALWAYS get the game to play, BUT
Why would the software company, Blizzard, be such a pain in my ***** about there patches!!
Why do I even have to use the patches to be able to play this game on my own PC!
I am really get tired of this, and I have re-installed this d@mn game seven times this week, just to try to play online!
I give up.
I will not be buying any more games from Blizzard, even thought I LOVED them,
Anyway, I know this is probably not the place to vent, but I am here.

Hirschy,
As a Diablo II Modder (I designed the popular Cold Fusion mod) I've done extensive work within the D2 data files. There's a reason why Blizzard must force d/l's of patches in order to play online.
The reason, simply, is this. Inside of the 1.09 patch, there are a number of changes to the data files themselves to make them easier to work with and program for both D2 modders and the programmers themselves. Unfortunately, without this patch in place, the game can no longer run.
This is absolutely true past Diablo II 1.04, which fixed a great deal of bugs from 1.03. The next major patch was 1.08, which MASSIVELY changed the game from the data-file side.
This is not, I promise, an attempt by Blizzard to screw you, but a necessity. Attempting to support ALL versions of D2 would necessitate at least five times as many servers. Here are the patches that introduce major code changes:
In other words, at each of those points, the game was so massively updated that previous patches would no longer work. Then there'd be the confusion of something trying to choose WHICH server they were going to play on and remember WHICH patch they had.
I trust you can see how messy this would get.
As to the necessity of the changes themselves, as someone who's logged hundreds of hours inside the D2 data files, I can tell you, the changes made by 1.08 and 1.09 were both positively elegant. Many files which before were extremely arcane are now much more streamlined and easy to work with.

I can appriciate what you say. but the bottom line is this.
I can no longer play the game without some kind of patch/cheat.
The 108 patch seemed to have broken my ability to play from my own CD!
After many tries with the tech web page at blizzard, it still doesnt work.
So, silly me goes out and buys the LOD expansion, and I still have the same problem.
My CD is not scratched, and the only option I have left is to contact blizzard for whatever they will do to replace the cd, I guess.
But, why does the patch have to make me do all this.
That is my complaint.
Thanks for the explanation for why, but I know that patches are usually good, right? Just ask M$ http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
patches are a wonderful thing

Ahhh,
Hirschy, I misunderstood you--I thought you were saying that you didn't like the patches.
Have you done this?
Uninstall D2.
Then, search you registry and delete ALL references to D2.
THEN reinstall.
If you haven't done that, you should try it--it might help.
To search your Registry, hit
Start
Run
Then type:
Regedit
and hit enter.
F3 will bring up the search index.

I have done the re-install thing three-ten times!
I have gone through the registry, deleting all blizzard, battlenet, and diablo items I can find.
Again, my biggest complaint at tis point is my GOOD characters, that I have palyed for months, are now gone!
The patch not only screams at me for the CD, but when I get the cheats workgin so I can at least play, and all the good guys disapear??
I just dont get all this.

Hirschy,
Do you run any Virtual CD-ROM or CD-ROM drive-creating technology on your machine? Do you have a Delta CD-ROM? And are your CD's at all scratched / damaged?
hirschY
09-10-2001, 12:31 PM
I had tried the Virtual CD rom thing.
Didnt work right, so I removed it.
Not a Delta CD, but will recheck(I think its a lite-on)
CD,s are not scratched, and the LOD CD is brand new, and no scratches either.
Again, the thing that I need to find out is why some guys show up, and others dont.
None of the characters were hacked or changed in any foreign matter.
The only hack I have ever done is to save the files, drop items, and log out, replace the saved files, and then log in. Local TCP game, not connected to battlenet.
It sounds like you really know whats up with Diablo II.
Let me know if you can help, or what ideas you have.
Thanks

After the 1.05 patch, D2 had problems with some Delta CD's, so Blizzard released 1.05b. Also, make sure Virtual CD-ROM is not still intalled on your system. If it is, make sure your # of virtual drives it set to 0.

Humm... Well I dunno this is a long shot but here goes... Are you using rounded IDE cables? Reason I ask is cause I just got some rounded cables I ordered and installed them... When I went to run D2 the game kept asking me to insert the CD.. It worked before I installed the rouded cable. The CD drive worked fine in every other way it just wouldn't run D2.. I disabled DMA on the drive and now the game can see the CD. Its a long shot but give it a try.

Oh yeah the games isnt worth play with all the lag even on my cable and 1.4ghz athlon. Oh yeah can't forget about the countless 10 year olds who will curse you like a dog and demand SOJ's for everything and then try to sell there accounts on ebay? Greetings Gamers... Ok, here is my update---> I have returned both DII reg and DII expansion. Blizzard sent me replacement cd's, no luck. Blizzard sent umpteen suggestions- can get game to play in single player but not online multiplayer. Thanks for the huge support of emails with suggestions and links- all yielded the same results- single but no multi. Finally, after phone support with blizzard and norton, I reformatted, did not reinstall norton but loaded DII in safe mode and all worked. However, I am not willing to not load Norton as it has saved my **** many times (just today with Namda and I am sold on norton over the others). I picked the lesser of the two evils- Norton. Blizzard told me that it was an incompatibility issue with Norton- my response, fix it. There response, in the works. I will wait and see if this issue is addressed in future patches. I still have a set of the game discs as Blizzard refunded my money but told me to keep the replacements- They have my support there with that action. I will continue to periodically check updates. However, I am still confused as the original game works fine until after patch 1.06. I read the earlier posts about the significant patch changes and am not sure why 1.07 should be problematic. Real quick, I updated all hardware drivers as well as mobo. I am retiring from this prob as I have spent too many evenings trying to resolve. Should anyone have success in fixing this prob without a no cd crack, email me or post here. Goodluck. I had stated earlier that I would not quit until my DII functioned as it should. I have exhausted all measures and find myself not knowing what direction to go now... Until a new direction presents its self, half life and others :D

What version of Norton, Mortis? I have Systemworks Pro in both 2000 and 2001 versions. SW Pro 2000 is installed on 98, and SW Pro 2001 (just antivirus and ghost though) are installed on win2k. If 2001 messes with D2 then I know I certainly won't be installing it on 98. A good heads up though, thanks man, although I'm used to McAfee causing more software problems than Norton.

Greetings Mr Good... I run Norton Anti Virus 2001... I know it sucks up resources (and of late, some games) but it has been reliable and effective against the latest attacks of viruses- which have been nasty! I am on the net in different capacities often, to me- it is worth it! It has caught all recent viruses and others (script and worm) and saved me much hassle. I plan to keep it and still keep on working DII. I am building a new machine and plan to change its config dif than this one with a seperate internet to see if it works... goodluck! I am frustrated by this, but also having fun!

I just recently tried to get on the Blizzard network to play online and it started downloading the patch. Now when I try and start the game I just get a blank screen. Nothing, nada, zilch.
The CDROM spins up and then blank. I have to reboot. It locks up my entire machine. I don't have anything running on this. No anti-virus software nothing.

Okay, I have read all the problems about diablo not locating the cd rom when it is obviously in the drive. My problem seems to be worse than everyone elses.
Not only did I get the "Please insert disk" error, but after a few tries Windows all of a sudden "lost" my CDROM, icon was gone from my computer, any cd I put into it is not recognized at all.
At first I thought my CDROM had died on me, but then I found these posts, and maybe I just have a worst case scenario.
I have an Acer 50x CDROM, less than a year old. After about a month of playing the Expansion this all started to happen. I no longer can even USE my CDROM.
I was looking for a no cd crack, but all the ones I found don't even work for me.
I have tried the suggestions posted (un-installing, removing registery listings for diablo, etc) None of them worked for me, at all.
So now I have the program uninstalled, and cannot reinstall it, until I get my CDROM to work again...
Anyone have any suggestions? I'm going to try Blizzard next to see if I can get this problem fixed.
