For all the hype of this game it is still missing some things which in my opion woulda made the game much more better. Here is what i think is missing:

-Tyre Marks (all that smoke but no marks!!!!)
-Body Kits (woulda been nice to be able to put body kits on your cars like in GT1)
-Car Damage (not necissary but woulda made the game more realistic)
-Visible Dirt On Cars (instead of the cars just loosing their shinnyness which can be fixed up with a wash, they shoulda put actual dirt marks, somehow i think after a good ol' rally event your car would be more than just dull looking, it should be DIRTY/MUDDY)
-Used Cars (like the 1st 2 GT's, it woulda been nice to be able to buy some older style cars e.g. older supra, crx/del sol, skyline etc.....)
-MORE AUSSIE CARS!!!! How could they include a Ford without having a good ol' Holden to compete against it!!!!

anyone else agree with this or have any more things to add?

Yeh should'a stuck a 'SS' in there for good measure. Maybe even a HSV http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Yes there are a few things missing from GT3, the game is fairly challenging enough without damage, it would be VERY difficult to win a race, espically the tougher ones if you have to enter damage into the equasion. The tire marks would have been a nice touch, they got rid of the used cars because of the time it took to design a single car. However, IMHO GT3 is the best simulation style racer out there. Both in terms of gameplay, and graphics.

Dont play racing games to often, do own a few.. If I were to actually LOVE a racing game, it would be because it actually had

Go hellmund, SS are good, HSV are better!
But i think they atleast shoulda put in a HRT or similar type car to challenge the tickford, just imagine getting all your mates over and I.Link 6 PS2's together (which you can do by using a hub, but i am yet to find a store to sell i.link/firewire hubs) and all challenge each other in a V8 Supercar type race (holden and ford V8 only).

Or alternatively they should release a V8 supercar game on PS2 (or dreamcast or PC). They already have a couple games, e.g. peter brocks bathurst 100(i have this and its **** to the max), Dick Johnsons V8 Supercars (i have this too, it is alittle better, graphics are much better, car models are pretty good, but handling and game play is shocking!)

Yeah but one major problem, Firewire hubs are VERY expensive. There's a PC game called Dirt Track Racing Australia. Had SS's, HSV, older HX and even FJ holdens! I'll try and find a link.

Hellmund don't bother about the link, i've already played the game (demo), it was alright, was thinking about buying it but i don't think it was worth the price i seen it for. Thanks anyways.

-Body Kits (woulda been nice to be able to put body kits on your cars like in GT1)
Yeah, that one's a great shame. I've tuned the MX5 as far as it'll go and really wanted to put a racing body kit on it (mainly for downforce).

RamonGTP, me and hellmund were talking aboout another demo for Australian Dirt Racing (not gt3), and i beleive your talking about the demo for gt3?

Talk about being anoying, i just went out an bought a 2nd MX-5 cuz i wanted to do the endurance race for the mx-5's, and my 1st mx-5 had been tuned, and the race is for non-tuned cars, i tried taking everything off but u can't take the weight reduction off. So yeh i had to buy a new one, after 80mins of racing i win, gett $100,000 and then guess which car i won (out of the possible 4 to win on that track)......another bloody mx-5! grrr.

Anyone who wants the tickford falcon (the australian car) just do the super speedway endurance race a couple times and you will win it, alot easier than trying to save up and buy it!.

Does anyone know if there is any trick to winning the F1 car on the super speedway endurance race? me and my brother have done it heaps of times and we only get either the tickford, the corvette or the cilo sports car. We want the F1!!!!

JayMan, my mistake... Yeah, there are a few mods that once you do them, they're done and there is no going back... I believe the only ones are:

Weight Reduction
Port & Polish
Engine Balancing
Displacement

I believe all the other ones can be taken back to stock parts.

Just an FYI, the Demo is a FAR cry from the finished product... When I played the Demo, I was disappointed as well... I now have the game, and trust me... There is NO comparison.

Actually the local Video-ezy has the game,I've been meaning to borrow it and make a 'back-up', you know incase I damage their copy http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

JayMan
09-01-2001, 08:29 AM
lol Our local video-ezy here has stopped renting PC games, i think too many people were scared of damaging the original cd so too many people were making back-ups, just to be safe of course. Instead video ezy just sold them all and now stick to N64, PS1 and PS2. Oh well, life goes on

JayMan

P.s. I still want the F1 cars!!

Hehe, actually ours still has a few games still. I think they won't be getting any more though....I'll have to remember to get Sacrifice and Hitman again. I'm waiting for Mechcommander 2 and Hitman to lower in price. Also be good if X-wing alliance was actually in stock....

things missing form gt3 would be lamborgini and ferrari and all the greatest like that how could anyone do such a thing..
any way i liked the graphics really nice but all in all kind of a let down. such as the used cars the bodykits and of course general car selection.

JayMan

Hitman is a great game, i love it. I bought it before i had even played it hehe. Graphics are pretty nice, and runs silky smooth, unlike max payne, which looks even better, but can be alittle sluggish!

NOO!!!! Video ezy no longer has hitman....my back-up is dead. Shame, never played it with this KYRO, Not to mention I won't have the chance to test the SUMA GF2 GTS PRO I plan on getting with a month/week. I already played it through once, the mini-gun is awesome but you walk too slow...

I also want a Big ole Holden EH in GT3!

Just found something pretty big missing. The ability to save a championship. There is a save option within championship mode but it may aswell not be there.

I'm not impressed. Some of the championships are ten races long!

JayMan
09-07-2001, 08:08 PM
Dudster, good pick up there, i've never actually tried to save part way thru a championship yet actually. Once youve done a few endurance races, doing a 10 track championship is nothing!

Oh and i've started another topic about my quest to get a F1 car, there are a few good replies. Havent had time to test them yet tho, been spending "quality" time with my girlfriend http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

i've started another topic about my quest to get a F1 car
http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif I know, I've posted in it. I'm in no rush to get an F1 car myself. I'm still racing my MX5 (the first car I bought) and will be for some time yet (it's quick enough to beat most cars). Plus if I really get the urge to race an F1 car, I've got Grandprix3 for the PC http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

There must be something wrong, because I saved a champoinchip half way through and was able to come back to it with all my points and everything intact. I had only finished 4 of the 10 races, when I reloaded the game, it took me directly to that race even.

Yes, and that thing is me http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif I just read your post, loaded the game and was automatically taken to the point I saved at in the championship http://www.sysopt.com/forum/redface.gif

That's the third time I've complained about GT3 on this forum and been completely wrong. I bet you all wouldn't believe I used to be a gamestester http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Oh well, at least I can actually save a championship http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Sorry for misinforming people.

hehe maybe it was things like this that stopped ya from continuing as a games tester? hehe j/k

http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Heh, no. Though I did mess up one time. Basically I reported a major problem in a PlayStation game (Tommi Makkinen's Rally or something). The boss phoned the director of the company who made the game. They said there wasn't any such problem. I went back and checked only to find that I had gotten it all wrong (after calling said company director a liar, not to his face but he might've overheard me). I actually left Sony due to ill health.

A lot of people think it's a dream job but usually, it was horrible and incredibly boring (plus the pay was ****). It can be good way into the industry though.

JayMan

Dudster, can i ask how ya got into the job? Something i wouldn't mind doing just as a 2nd job (if thats possible). Altho i dunno if we would be able to do it here is sydney. Don't think there are many ozi games being developed lately.

My first testing job was with Psygnosis and I kinda got it by default as my Dad was a producer there. I was testing games for them from the age of about 13 in my school holidays. Back then, Psygnosis was a fairly small company and most of the testers were a friend or relative of someone who worked there, though they did advertise for staff occasionally.

My second testing job was with SCEE (Sony Comp. Ent. Eu.) in their submissions dept. We were the final stage that every european PS game had to pass before release. Basically, it was our job to try and stop it being released. If we couldn't, it was good to go. Most of Sony's staff was from job advertisements (though I wasn't http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif). I don't remember there being any job interviews. I think people just sent in CVs (what they call resumes in America) and got picked for a 3 month trial. What they were looking for was:

*A good knowledge of games and a decent level of skill at games (though you certainly don't need to be a gaming god).
*Good communication skills and teamwork ability (one of the biggest parts of the job was knowing how to word a bug when reporting it).
*A willingness to do lots of overtime when things got really busy (part and parcel of the games industry. At least on the development side).
*If it's PC games then the more knowledge of PCs the better. Though knowledge of whatever platform you're testing on is obviously a good thing.

Of course the thing they want most is the ability to find bugs and then what exactly is causing them. Then be able to communicate that in detail whilst trying to keep it short. An example of an easy bug report:
------------------------------------
Game: Action bloke Ver: 1.03 Platform: PlayStation Class: A

Bug: If the user activates the drinks machine on level 2 whilst holding the mobile phone, all of the textures become corrupted. The menu screen also ceases to function. If the user then jumps, the game locks-up. The user is forced to reset the machine. This bug is 100% reproducable.

Options: This bug is unaffected by different option settings.
------------------------------

I don't think it's possible to do gamestesting as a 2nd job (though it may well be with certain dev. houses). I think the best way to apply is to phone each company and ask them how you can apply to be a tester. I don't know how many games companies there are in Australia but I know of at least 2 (not sure what they're called but I think one of them is called Ratbag Games or something). My Dad visits a few of them sometimes so I'll ask him who they are and where they are.

If I was working, I wouldn't want to work in anything but the games industry (preferbly as a producer, that's a brilliant job). Though testing games can be insanely tedious at times but then something like Gran Turismo comes along and it's great http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Edit: just found a few links with Google.
