Somebody asked me if there are games/controllers set up for a PC to run dual joysticks/paddles/etc., so that two people can play at once. Since this is not my genre, I told him I did not know and to go for a Play Station 2, X box, etc.
Anybody know if there is such a setup for PC's?

No, I don't think that is possible.. Never heard of it anyway, and dont know of any games that allow you to select "2 players" Have to have 2 different computers...

Awhile back there used to be an ISA 2 port joystick card. Not sure if they made a PCI version. I don't remember any multiplayer games where both people were at the same computer though...but there must have been. I think all the recent multiplayer games are online/lan now.
Didn't the old sidewinder control pads have the option to daisy chain them? I don't know about the new ones and nearly every single arcade-style game now has split screen... Also, didn't matrox have a graphics card released a while back enabling you to play on the same comp using multiple monitors?
Feck it...consoles suck anyway http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Welcome to Sysopt Surt!
The daisy chain was for easy switching between pad and joystick. It was an either/or choice. I have head of ppl using USB gamepads, but I'm not sure what they are playing since I have not seen any 2 player PC games.

A good example of 2 player PC games would be something like Madden 2001 or probably any sport game.

This is a good examply of why its always good to have a console to compliment the PC.

Almost all Console and Arcade emulators support 2 or more players. I use a USB device that lets me use psx and N64 controllers on the PC. Works great. I'm sure you could hook up two, provided you have two free USB ports.

If I rememer correctly, my friend and I successfully daisy chained two Sidewinder pads (the original, not the new one you see today).

Can't you do that with 2 USB game controllers as long as you have 2 free USB ports?

There used to be.... back in the days of DOS-only PCs. If you had two 2-button, 2-axis joysticks (and almost all of them were), you could get a y-cable and then, if the game supported it, the other person could use the second joystick. The 2nd x-axis was the same as the throttle on modern joysticks, and the 2nd y-axis was like the rudder on some modern joysticks. The 2nd set of 2 buttons was just buttons 3 and 4 to the game.
But once you started to get more axes and buttons per joystick, this simple way of using two was lost.....
