What exactly is the chunk size?? Details?

I've got another question.

What would be the best vcache and virtual memory settings for a Pentium 3 650 coppermine(256K) with 128 mb of 100mhz sdram?

I would like to get the best speed in applications with these new settings. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I know this about "chunk size":

"The disk cache is a single block of memory which is divided into "chunks". The performance changes with the chunk size. When the chunk size is too small, the executable must occupy too many chunks and vice versa. This affects the performance of your system slightly. An optimum size must be arrived at so that the chunk size is neither too large, nor too small."

That's from the help file in Cacheman. I've only seen one report with benchmarks using various chunk sizes. I can't find the link now, but it was a very detailed look at chunk size (15-20 pages of info!). However, in the end it was very clear that the best chunk size to use was 512k.

I remember the author tested sizes from 16k up to like 4MB. Without question 512k won all the benchmark except for a couple isolated incidents where 256k came out slightly ahead.

Sorry I can't find a link to that report, but for what's it worth I remember it being convincing enough for me that I just set mine at 512k and haven't thought about it since.
