I always make a backup of every game I purchase. I use CloneCD. I have made 3 backups including one at 1X. Everything looks good on the backup but when I got to run the game it want load up. I installed the orginal disk and it works fine, but the backup want run. I even uninstalled the game and reinstalled using the backup. Everything installs just fine. Just want run. Any suggestions? Thanks

Oh, so you downloaded the CloneCD version, too? You have to replace maxpayne.exe with the patched maxpayne.exe file.

Barney, I'm downloading the patch right now.
One more question for you about the game audio. Why is gun fire volume so low? Is it low with you? I have sound effects volume maxed out. Foot steps are just as loud if not louder than gun fire and that shouldn't be in my opinion. Just wondered. So far I like the game, I just gotta get use to 3rd person shooting.
Thanks

I don't know why that is. I can't say I've ever heard gunfire, so I don't know if it's realistic or not. But if the footsteps are louder, something is wrong. I don't think the footsteps are as loud as gunfire on my computer. What soundcard do you have? I have a SoundBlaster 128 PCI.

I installed the patch and not one of the 3 cdrs work. It loads the the Max Payne little window and never gets to the point to where I would Hit play or choose my options.
I have a SB live value and have never had any problems. Maybe its just me, and thats the way the game is suppose to be. I'm so use to playing CS and hearing the gunfire is one of the things that makes the game so great to me.

Gunfire is LOUD in real life, ear ringing loud....unless you're shooting BB guns http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif
Getting ready to fire up the game now for the first time.
Man, this game has some STEEP recommended requirements. Good thing I have a planned upgrade in a year (and my comp is only 1 year old)!

You know what? Read the user agreement, and if it says you can make a backup, call them and whine whine whine! Whine some more then, and you'll be surprised, they might send you an original http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

So, has anyone made a max payne backup that works? If no one else can make one either then I will go whine!
How loud is gunfire in the game with you all?
It should be the loudest thing in the game in my opinion.
I just tried something that doesnt make sense, so i'm editing this post. I uninstalled the game and reinstalled using one of the cdrs (full install). Everything installs just fine. When I go to play it the game want start up using the cdr but will using the original disk. I know my copy isnt corrupt because it wouldnt of even loaded right? So whats the problem?

You've got that right, Warthog - gunfire is loud!
Was on a firing line at a local range and a "friend" of mine wanted to scare me. He fired a single .223 from a Ruger Mini 14 stainless about 3 feet from the rear side of my head... Ears rang for about 30 minutes - even through my muffs.... What an *****...

Max uses Safedisc 2 which is not supported by all CDRW's.

If i remember correctly, they only burner that can copy safedisc 2 protected discs are some of the plextor cdrw's, but even then for them to play back properly you have to play them back in the plextor burner not just any cd-rom drive.
