Yes I want to benchmark Half-Life (at least one time in my life) but Brett "3 Fingers" Jacobs' extreme torture benchmark file (mine1 & mine2) doesn't work on my Half-Life (even tried a new install without the patches). Need a better one. Also like to know a few good site regarding Half-Life (for tweaking, downloads etc). Thanks.

[2.1.9]: Frames Per Second

There are a few ways to get frames per second (fps):

1. During mid game, type the following in the console:

developer 1

host_speeds 1

This should provide real-time fps during game play.

2. Use the -gamegauge parameter. Check it out in section 7.2.3 Parameters. It will tell you how to use it.

3. Record a demo or get one, then within the console, type the following: gg <demo's name>

You do not need to type the demo's name with the three letter extension. Just the file name, that's it. Check out section 2.1.20 to know how to record your own demo. You may not need to type in cl_gg 1. Also, when running gg (Game Gauge), Half-Life will dump a file call fps.txt in the \Half-Life\Valve\ directory. Open that up and it'll tell you your fps records.

4. During mid game, type this in the console: timerefresh. Although to me, this is very unrealistic number, can't be trusted.

5. Record a demo or get a demo, then type this within the console: timedemo <demo's name>

Do not type the demo's name with the three letter extension. Just the file name, that's it. Check out section 2.1.20 to know how to record your own demo.

Type net_grap 1,2 and 3 in your console(~ key) during a console enabled game. The graph shows your exact ping and packet loss and it shows your frames per second

Thanks. These things will get me going. In the meen time I have found some sites on my own http://halflifeexpress.valvenews.com/ and http://half-life.pcgame.com/ . Looks like you see one of them and you have seen them all. Still, taking a look shouldn't hurt if you don't know them already.

For some reason, even though I finally got the console so I can access it, when I type a command or cheat, nothing takes effect. Does the particular mod have to be such that it will respond to those commands or should it work regardless? Please advise and TIA.
