Need For Speed, Porsche Unleashed????

I have done everything I can to get this game to work without crashing. I get to the "Modern Era" in Evolotion play. I can complete the 3 series tournament fine. When I am playing the 2 series tournament the game crashes 100% of the time when loading the Monte Carlo 2 course. As a result, I cannot get a modded Porsche past '93 turbo 3.6.

My system has the following hardware;

Win98SE
Abit bx motherboard
PII 400
Diamond MX300 sound
Voodoo 3 3000 AGP video
3com 10/100 PCI 3c905b TX NIC
256MB memory
Gobs of hard drive space available

I have reformatted my hard drive, loaded OS updated I.E. to 5.5 and updated all patches and securities including DirectX 8 at the Microsoft Update site.

Nothing other than Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed is loaded onto my system yet it still crashes at same point.

Anyone else have this problem?

Hi there, I'm not sure of how to resolve your problem, but I had a problem like that some time back. The game would freeze exactly at one spot along the track. No other points. Turns out that it was my PCI latency (I was using a TNT PCI 16MB) was set too high (at 0). Turned it down to 32, and it worked. Hope it helps. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I have experienced similar problems when my video card is overclocked. Even when EVERYTHING else seems stable (including 3DMark and other stress tests) still Porsche will be the one that says nope, I'm gonna lock that video if you don't cut out down that overclock.

I can't get past the buy car screen on evolution! it freezes up so much it's not een funny , how do you turn down a set to 0 or whatever, cause it REALLY crashes alot.

Maybe it is realted to heat or driver issues.! At least in my system, the game doesn't crash because I improved the cooling.!

Before intensive cooling, every direct3d or game crashed! NFS = crashed, 3dmark2000 = crashed, 3dmark2001 = crashed...

Try to improve cooling or update the drivers..!!!


By the way.. I think this is the best racing game for the pc in a long time.!!! It's up there with NFS High Stakes.!

Do you have the latest update for the game? I can't really find it on the company's website, but it will download it if you connect to multiplayer. Or, when you installed the game, there should have been an EA game updater app installed also. I'm not sure of the default directory, but the program is called EAAskUpdate.exe. If you search your computer for that you should be able to locate it, if it is installed.
