Should be out on the 22nd over here in the UK (last time I checked). So only a few days to wait http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Played the demo & it rocked, just need a linux version so I don't have to keep digging out my old WinME HD http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

From the reviews I have read the game lives up to expectations, but could still have done with a bit more polish/tweaking.

Why don't you guys get it from over here if you can't wait till september, afterall many people in the UK get DVD's from the states for the very same reason http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

My brother is downloading it right now, so I can probably try it tomorrow. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I'd rather have the polished version in September http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. I too wasn't impressed with the controls and other glitches in the demo. The final version NEEDS to fix all of those for it to be successful. I'm used to playing demo's that are what you expect out of the final version in terms of graphics, controls, etc. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

This game looks great (especially if you download some of the user-built mission for the demo) but does seem a resource hog.
Along the same lines (i.e. great and resource hog http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif ) check out WW2 Online at www.wwiionline.com (http://www.wwiionline.com) - they are fixing release bugs, FPS has doubled since it came out, and by all accounts, it r0x0rz.

Check out www.simhq.com (http://www.simhq.com) (among other sites) for reviews forums etc about this stuff.

I played a few missions today! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

In the first mission you have to steal a car in a village. Not that hard. I also did a mission where you have to destroy a konvoy with an AH1 Cobra.

And I tried out the mission builder. Looks quite easy. I put a few aircrafts in it and flew the A10 and a civillian aircraft. Wow, it's really hard getting the A10 in the air. I haven't even bothered trying to land it yet. I just pushed the eject button. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif

FIRST you have to start the engines, Barney http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

What system do you have?

How well does it run? What detail options?

How are the controls for the guys/vehicles? Easy? Sluggish?

You don't have to start the engine of the A10, it goes on automatically (strange, huh?). I must say I'm kinda disappointed the A10 only does 600mph. I went up to a few 1000 feet and put the nose down while I was already doing 600 and it didn't accelerate any further. Too bad, I was hoping it could break through the sound barrier. It is funny that the plane starts shaking badly at 600, like it's about to fall apart.

I have an AMD Tbird 1GHz, Geforce 256 SDR and 128mb memory (@100MHz). It runs great at 1024x768 32bit with all detail options @ high.

The controls for the vehicles are quite easy, but it takes a while to learn. The helicopters are easy to get in the air, but they're quite tough to land. The airplanes are quite hard to get in the air and are (for so far) impossible to land. In the air the A10 is great. It's pretty cool to fly it 1 foot above the water at 600mph. The islands are too small. Most of the time you're flying over water, because you're past the island before you know it.

The cars/jeeps are really easy to drive. The only problem I have with them is that they're terribly slow off road (about 10mph I think). There are a lot of bugs and stuff that isn't realistic in it, though. When you shoot one of the tyres of a car, you can't get in it anymore, like it's broken. If you want to use a car or tractor and there's already a civilian in it, you have to kill him to be able to drive it. I was watching a cutscene where my Lieutenant was driving a jeep and was sitting next to him. Their feet stuck out of the bottom of the car. I really felt like Barney. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

I haven't figured out how to give orders to soldiers yet. I was doing a mission where I had to sniper a few snipers in a base. I was supposed to take 2 guys with silenced HK MP5's with me, but no matter what I tried, they didn't follow me. So I had to go alone. Needless to say, I got killed. When you're flying in a helicopter it's really easy to have to gunner to shoot the targets. Just choose a target with tab, click the left mouse button for fire and the gunner will shoot when you're in range.

600mph?!?! It should only do the mid 400s!

It is not a fighter plane, and so does not Mach 1.7 (1.7 * speed of sound) or whatever. It is a ground attack aircraft. If you were going 1.7 times the speed of sound, how would you shoot tanks on the ground? You already said that you are flying over water a lot because the islands are small http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Hmmm... maybe the speeds are in kph instead of mph. They only give a number and they don't say if it's mph or kph. But then the A10 should go faster. But kph does make sense, because the UH-60 Blackhawk does 350 and the AH-1 Cobra does 200, like they do in real life - in kph. They should have put an F-16 in it... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif At least that one does Mach 2. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif Btw, my father worked at F-16's when he still worked for Fokker. He didn't work closely on them, but I've been there a few times and saw one that wasn't finished yet. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

This game looks awesome, I'm probably going to buy it when it comes out.

The game is too darn hard! How can I blow up 5 tanks when all I have is 3 timed bombs and a sniper rifle? I can't believe this! I'm afraid this game is too realistic. For some people this may be a good thing, but I'd like a bit more action and more chances of survival.

I have to write a review of it that I want to have finished by the end of the week. I only finished 3 missions yet. I wish there were already cheats available. I downloaded a trianer to have unlimited ammo in the clip, but that isn't very helpful. Btw, the trainer was made for the demo, but it works on the full version as well. That's a good thing. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Perhaps if more people had the game (hint hint, American market) there would be cheats http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

I don't give a rats poopy about the SP...well, a little bit but not much. What I really want is the MP. That is going to kick buttocks (hopefully). I'm in a clan, awaiting it's release...

I take back what I said yesterday. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif I was playing the wrong missions. I was playing the single player missions, while I should have chosen the "story mode". You start with a really short training to learn the basic controls and after that you start the missions. It's really nice because you get to learn stuff during the missions, too. Like driving vehicles and running in formations. The story is great, you really feel like you're in the middle of the war. You can read the diary of the person you're playing, so you know what he thinks about the war. Being afraid to get killed and stuff.

I'm now in a part where the truck that would pick me up has been blown up, the Blackhawk that was supposed to rescue me and my team got shot down by a Hind and all my teammates are dead. I'm surrounded by enemy forces and I have to get in to a town before 5:45 or the troops will leave the island without me. It's quite an exciting game. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif
