What resolution do u play games in? I playin 1024x700 all the time. 800x600 you can really see the jags and @ at anything higher than 1024, like 1600x1200 everything is sooooo small I cant even read text. is anyone comfortable with high resolutions?

What size monitor do you have?

I have a 19" and play at 1024x768

I tried higher but, as you said, cannot read ****. Now, perhaps if I had a 21" monitor that would be different.

19" monitor

<FONT COLOR=""EE3B3B"">1024x768x16-bit for most games. Sometimes I can get away with 32-bit color, but usually raising the color depth at this res really starts to bog down my "Classic" nVidia card (TNT2 Viper).

I'd really like to be capable of running games at 1600x1200, but it's not like I need that. Honestly, 1024x768 is still good enough, and this OLD TNT2 is still chuggin' along strong enough to keep me happy with it.

...but it's days are most definitely numbered. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

I have a 21" Nec Multisync very good monitor, i play usually some games at 1024x728 or 1280x1024, also 32 bit has a hit on performance on high resolutions so i use the best balance between high resolution and high color!!

I have a 15" Triniton monitor and I run all games at 1024x768 or higher. My monitor is so sharp that 800x600 looks crappy. I have a Tbird 1GHz (sometimes overclocked) and a Geforce SDR, which is pretty decent, but No One Lives Forever is just playable at 1024x768x16. Ofcourse I could lower the texture details, but that's just what makes NOLF look so great. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Usually 1600x1200x16 with a 19" monitor and GF-2 GTS. For 32-bit rendering, I generally drop back to 1024x768 for performance concerns. For a few games that offer substantial visual improvement with 2x FSAA, I sometimes drop back to 600x600x32 if need be.

I also have advanced vidtext rendering (still in beta with 12.60 drivers) enabled through a registry hack to improve text visibility and clarity in most D3D games. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Dang, I run pretty much everything at 640X480X16 . That's because I still have a 16mb M64 http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif. I can play Freespace and Starlance at 1024X768X16 but I can't get giants to get more than 25fps even with all texture details on low at 640X480X16. I'm halfway towards an MX or even possibly a GTS if it's the right price http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif.

I play most of my games at 1024x768x16 on my 19" Viewsonic E790. My Voodoo4 4500 takes a bit of a performance hit using 32 bit color.

I run most games at 1024*768 @ 32 bit colour. This is on a Gforce DDR with a 17" Diamond View monitor.

Dude, Rob, how can you see anything with that rez? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

That's insane. I tried Rogue Spear once at a higher resolution (whatever is after 1024x768). Everything was so small that I couldn't play it. The recticle was quite small.

16x12 is perfectly playable for me in most games, especially for simulators. If you are referring to text clarity at high-res, using beta D3D vidtext rendering (check out the GeForce Tweak Utility application) with my .25dp works quite well together. Now if nVidia could offer a similar option for OpenGL.

19" Screen
Desktop @ 1280x1024x32
HL/CS @ 1280x960
Quake3 @ 1024x768x32 Everything on.
I used to play CS at 1024x768 FSAA 2x, but I got sick of shutting off FSAA every time I played another game or benchmarked.

So there is something to make text large enough to be legible at high resolutions, Rob?

Warthog: all the games I play the resolution only changes the sharpness, not the size?

I have a 17" trinitron flatscreen, but I can only play at 800X600X16, it looks pretty crappy.

I played Rogue Spear (play nothing now) and it always made it smaller...don't remember trying rez changes with any other game....maybe it's just that game and I'm wasting my time writing in this thread? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

All the games that i play when i increase rez to anything after 1024 i only see things smaller not more detailed or whatever. So usually i focus on putting texture detail and other stuff to max while keeping at 1024
1024 is the perfect rez for me.

I usually use 640x480 (and usually all detail settings down).

800x600 in realMYST, as it's always running at 1 FPS, doesn't matter what settings I have.
320x240 in Q1 (QWTF) to get some extra FPS.

Actually now I'm running at 800X600X32 in pretty much everything, I just got a prophet 4000XT so I'm getting some much more respectable FPS in UT and even running giants very well at 800X600X32 with all details on! It's a 15inch monitor BTW.

I use a Sony 17" Multiscan 200 ES. I have a GeForce2MX 32meg. I run at 800x600x16. In Combat flight simulator I run 80fps in 16 bit. In 32 bit I run 65fps. I don't see that much difference in this game so I leave it at the 16 bit level.
In Combat flight simulator 2 I run at 800x600x32. I get 60fps in this game. In 16bit it is poor video quality.
If I run higher res in eather game everything starts getting to small to be able to pick where I want to hit a plane at. I fly at 100 percent settings so I pick where I'm going to hit to make a fast kill with the least ammo used.

I am a proud of the great 3dfx Voodoo 3 2000 16MB. My monitor is a KDS 17" Avitron Trinitron display with a .24 dpi.

Usually i play games at 1024x768 (unreal tournament at 32bit). Sometimes i play at 800x600. I have not yet seen performance drop on my great voodoo card.

The KDS is a very nice monitor

Voodoo3-2000's can't run 32bit color, that's why the TNT2 was still popular when it was released even though the VooDoo killed it in FPS.

1024x768 usually. If it's really graphics entense 960x720, or 800x600. I need a new CPU before I will be able to really fly!

I play at 1024x768 at 32 bit

I find it to be the most comfortable rez everythings a good size.

This is with my GTS and samsung 17 incher.
