microsoft train simulator problem

I keep getting this error everytime I try to run this, I even installed my spare hdd [ brand new 10g w/d] and loaded only win `98 [not se] and this game, I get the same darn thing. my system: Pentium-II @ 350mhz - 320 pc100 sdram - 13.6 w/d hdd - pci 3d labs premadia2 3D accelerator with 8 megs - crystal 3D sound card - adsl external modem/56k modem - 3com nic - brand new NEC 17 inch monitor.. I've already installed direct 8.0.. I had a g/forcemx and s/b live but I just gave them away to a family that was burnt out along with my old 266 p-II machine.I'm that kinda guy :-) anyhow this is what I see:
"microsoft train sim. has encounter a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience" then it goes on to say that if you were in the middle of working on something that you'll lose all your info and that it created an error report. and it asks if you want to send it to microsoft. I've reinstalled this 4 times on my 13.6 gig hdd and twice now on my spare hdd. any thoughts as to why I might be getting this? I play klington academy which wants more requerments of everything with no problems. thanks all.. madfish

Have you checked Microsofts web site for patches?

yes I have, still no go, I also have all the latest patches for win.98 and IE 5. all my drivers are up to date also. I forgot to add that when I get this eror my screen turns black and the resloution goes down to 640x480. The only way out at this point is the three finger salult or shut down/reset opition. it's strange, all my other games play fine with these new low end cards, like I said, I tryed it on a new hdd with nothing on it but win 98 and the video/sound cards. so no go.Hmmm I should be pissed off, but I'm not, this is starting to be a quest on why it's not working. Hmmm maybe by threating my P-II with replacing it with a AMD unit my Itel iron will comply... Resistince is futile....

follow up:
I been to the MSTS fourm and found out that the second cd in this sim has copy protection in it, and that some cd readers willn't read this right and they corupt the installing software. and from also what I've read my 8 mb 3dlab premida2 3D card should be working fine with this sim. I have a brand new HP 9350I burner, I'm going to try a reinstall of this MSTS again using this one instead of my 56x which is an year old this month. I'll post my findings later tonight here... madfish

Well it's still a nogo. I borrowed a tnt 32mb card and still nada. time to give up.. laters...madfish
